Soleil (So-Lay) was found in the woods October 2011, emaciated and weak (see picture #2). She was barely able to use her back right leg and was unable to use her back left leg at all. She needed a sling to walk the first few months. She also had heartworms. Soleil was sweet and trusting when she first came to CAP, but some situations, possibly related to being in the woods, caused her to become fearful of strangers. Soleil is learning to trust people again with help from a trainer and she is affectionate with the people she trusts. She has been treated for the heartworms and is walking on both back legs now though the left one is still weak, she limps, and she drags it sometimes. It's unknown how much better the leg will get, but she is still improving as time goes by (swimming would be helpful). She is doing okay with the other dogs in her foster home. She wants to play, but does have trouble keeping up, and she tires easily. Definitely no cats! In a recent meet and greet, she was good with the children. Soleil needs a home where she will get the attention and consistent exercise she needs. If you'd like to give this sweet girl the life she deserves after all she's been through email her foster at [email protected]. Verifiable vet history with this breed is required.

Wilson is a very kind dog, full of energy and very playful. He weighs about 45 lbs. He is part Australian Shepherd, which explains why he loves to run and herd and chase squirrels. Wilson gets along with other dogs, and is ok with cats that like dogs. He would do best with children 6 and older because he is so lively. Wilson really needs a back yard to spend some time in, and an owner who likes going for walks. In the evening, he is happy to curl up on the couch so you can scratch behind his ears. Note: Wilson is at CAP only on some weekends. Email [email protected] to see if he will be here this weekend.

Check out CAP sometime this week!!! We have some animals in need of a home. We even have a 2-year-old male Guinea Pig named Alex. He is very sweet but a little bit shy. He is red, brown, and, orange. He is very handsome. He would love to be with a loving family for the rest of his life. He is currently not on our website because he just got him into the shelter. Will you be his new family?

Recently, Allie Huddleston decided to have her birthday at CAP - not just to spend the day with all of CAP's furr-tastic felines and cuddly canines but to help animals with donations from party guests in lieu of presents. KHOU thought Allie's generosity is pretty special..and so do we.

You can have your next birthday party at CAP too!

Pet Population Crisis!
CAP needs your help to protect the feline community from a dangerous pyramid scheme. Did you know that one un-spayed female cat can have 12,000 descendants in just five years?

In the last 145 days, we have trapped, spayed and released 416 feral female cats back to their caretakers. Without CAP volunteer trappers and a dedicated veterinarian staff, the cat population of Houston would have increased by:

•1 year 4,992 cats
•2 years 27,872 cats
•3 years 156,416 cats
•4 years 876,512 cats
•5 years 4,909,216 cats

And, we haven’t even mentioned the four-legged fellas that make it all possible. An average male cat can impregnate more than 1,000 females during his lifetime. The numbers are too staggering to imagine. They’re the reason the pyramid will continue to reach higher and higher unless you help us stop it. In the last 145 days, 345 feral male cats have had their turn in the CAP clinic. Neutered, they’ll no longer be participating in the pyramid scheme.

We all can do our part. Not everyone is able to spend the hours necessary to trap feral cats, but all of us can reach into our hearts and our pockets to make a gift for CAP’s spay/neuter clinic.

Think of the millions of cats your support can save from a life of disease, injuries and malnutrition. In one click to make a gift on our website, you can make a difference:

•$25 can prevent up to 6,000 births
•$50 – 12,000 births
•$100 – 24,000 births
•$200 – 48,000 births
Please help us build a pyramid of support that will decrease the ever increasing population of feral cats. We need your support this summer more than ever. Please donate now.

Yours for the animals,
