Summer travel is coming. Boarding facilities require updated vaccines and some have a 2-week lead time before those vaccines take effect.

If you are booking a summer trip and your pet is staying behind, now is the time to get ahead of boarding requirements. Dr. Miller and our team bring the appointment to your door. No lobby, no wait, no extra trip for you.

The most common thing we hear from new clients is some version of “my neighbor/coworker/sister told me about you.” Yesterday we saw a new patient who found us from a flyer hanging in their office.

We haven’t hung a flyer anywhere.

Someone loved their experience enough to take a flyer and hang it up on their own. We did not ask. They just did it.

So, we want to say thanks to our amazing clients. If you refer a friend, you both get $25 off your next house call fee. All they have to do is mention your name at their appointment. No codes, no coupons, no gimmicks. Just thanks for spreading the word.

That kind of word of mouth is how our practice has grown from day one. A text to a neighbor. A recommendation at the office. Apparently a flyer in the break room. If that is you, thank you. It means everything to us.

Meet Ollie. She came in for her checkup this week and, honestly, she ran the whole appointment. Sat perfectly while Dr. Miller finished up her notes, then made sure the treat situation was handled before she left.

That's the thing about seeing pets in our clinic instead of a waiting room. They're calm. They're themselves. Ollie wasn't nervous or hiding. She was just... Ollie.
If your dog has ever had a tough time at the vet, we'd love to show you what a different experience looks like!

Memorial Day cookouts are full of food you love and your dog would love to try. And there's always at least one person at the table who can't resist that face.

Before the holiday weekend kicks off, it's worth knowing what to keep away from your pup. Grapes, raisins, onions, garlic and corn cobs are all dangerous in ways most people don't expect. Fatty meats like hotdogs and hamburgers can cause pancreatitis. Alcohol in any form, including anything cooked in it, is a no.

If something does happen this weekend, Steel City Emergency Vet is available around the clock at (205) 336-7542. We will reopen Tuesday at 8am. Hope your weekend is filled with fun, family and zero emergency clinic trips.

School's out early today, and your to-do list didn't get any shorter. The last thing you need is loading up the kids, driving across town, wrangling everyone in a waiting room and cramming into an exam room that wasn't built for a family of four plus a dog.

We come to you. Your pet gets checked, your kids stay in the yard and nobody had to bribed with snacks/treats to get in the car!

We have said it before, but Hoover, you have shown up for us in ways we did not expect.
Since we opened our doors in January, the messages, the referrals, the neighbors who told their neighbors, the familiar faces who greeted us at the door on the first visit, all of it has meant more than we know how to say.

Today, the Hoover Sun shared our story, and we are genuinely touched. We are a small team who believe your pet deserves great care without the stress of getting there.

We are proud to be Hoover's practice. In the neighborhoods we drive through every morning, the driveways we pull into, and the pets who are already waiting at the window when we arrive.
Thank you to those who've already trusted us and for those we haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet!

Trace Crossings Veterinary + Pet Wellness launched in Hoover offering fully mobile veterinary care for pets at home.

Alabama heat doesn't arrive gradually. By mid-May in Hoover, afternoon walks can push dogs toward heat stroke faster than most owners expect. Once a dog's body temperature hits 106°F, you are in emergency territory.

Watch for heavy panting that won't quit, gums that look red or pale instead of pink, and a dog who starts dragging behind when they normally pull ahead. Those are your signals to head inside.

Once you're in, pour cool water over their head, belly, armpits and feet. Not ice water. Just cool. Skip the wet towel too. Get a fan on them and call your vet.
Flat-faced breeds like pugs, bulldogs and boxers reach dangerous temperatures faster than other dogs. If yours is one of them, shorten the walk now.

Some of life’s most meaningful appointments don’t happen in a clinic.

They happen in living rooms. On back porches. Beside the dog bed sitting in the same corner of the house for a decade. When your pet is nearing the end of their life, a car ride and a waiting room is the last thing your family needs. You need familiar. You need quiet. You need your people close.

We offer in-home end-of-life care because those final moments belong at home. No strangers. No fluorescent lights. No rushing.

If you have questions about what this looks like for your family, reach out. We’ll take all the time you need.
