worming, heartworm testing, dietary, arthritis care. Medical care includes diagnostics and treatment, dental care, surgery, digital radiography, and full laboratory. Referral to specialists (Portland/Vancouver area) as needed. We offer free first exams for newly adopted humane shelter animals. It is our policy not to answer pet health questions on Facebook, by email, or over the phone for pets we have not seen. Please call us to make an appointment with one of our dedicated Vets. Ever heard your dog suddenly make a loud snorting or honking sound and wondered if they’re okay? 😮🐶

It might be something called a reverse sneeze—and while it can sound scary, it’s usually harmless.

Reverse sneezing happens when something irritates your dog’s nasal passages or throat, causing a rapid, involuntary inhaling sound. It can be triggered by things like excitement, allergies, pulling on the leash, or even dust in the air.

Most episodes pass quickly on their own, but if you notice them happening often or your dog seems uncomfortable, it’s always a good idea to check in with your vet.

Wildfire smoke doesn’t just impact people—it can also affect our pets. When the air is smoky, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) recommends limiting your pet’s time outdoors and avoiding strenuous exercise until air quality improves.

🐾 During smoky conditions:
• Keep pets indoors as much as possible with windows closed.
• Limit outdoor time to brief potty breaks if air quality is poor.
• Skip runs, hikes, and long walks until the smoke clears.
• Make sure fresh water is always available.

Watch for signs of smoke irritation, including:
• Coughing or gagging
• Difficulty breathing or increased panting
• Watery or irritated eyes
• Nasal discharge
• Weakness or unusual tiredness

Puppies, kittens, senior pets, flat-faced breeds (like Bulldogs and Pugs), and pets with heart or lung disease are especially at risk.

If your pet develops breathing difficulties or seems unwell after being outside, contact Tucker Road Animal Hospital as soon as possible.

French Bulldog owners: Keep a close eye on your pup’s eyes. 👀🐾

Elton recently came to us with a very deep corneal ulcer in his left eye and a smaller ulcer in his right eye from a run-in with a thorn-bush. Corneal ulcers can develop from a scratch or puncture wound, or they may be associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), also known as dry eye, where the eyes don’t produce enough tears to protect the cornea.

Because French Bulldogs have prominent eyes, they are more susceptible to eye injuries and corneal ulcers than many other breeds. What starts as mild squinting or tearing can quickly become a painful condition that threatens vision if left untreated.

Keep an eye out for:
👁️ Squinting or holding an eye closed
💧 Excessive tearing or discharge
🔴 Redness
☁️ Cloudiness of the eye
🐾 Pawing or rubbing at the face

If you notice any of these signs, don’t wait—prompt veterinary care is essential. Early diagnosis and treatment can make all the difference in preserving your dog’s vision and comfort. We’re wishing Elton a smooth recovery! 💙
