Looking forward to this fun project at Columbia Gorge Humane Society! Sprucing up the shelter will make everyone feel better. Paws crossed it helps get more dogs adopted too! 🐶🐾💞

🫶🐾❤️ We operate a 501c3 that gets 90% of its funding from private donations. Every single dollar that we raise goes right back into the care and security of our sheltered animals. Our staff and volunteers put their blood, sweat, and tears into making sure that we get as many doggies and kitties adopted out into loving homes as possible. When we make calls to the community for a boost or a leg up- you all answer but sometimes business really STEP UP and Dog River Pet Supplies has done it time after time. This time they are volunteering to paint our buildings that are in dire need of a refresh. Their entire staff will be out here painting in June. So next time you stop in the shop, know that you are shopping at a business that is 💯 committed to its community. 🫶🐾❤️

⚠️Wild Coast Raw has issued a voluntary recall on 2 lots of their boneless chicken cat food formula. The concern is potential contamination from H5N1 bird flu virus. We have temporarily removed this chicken formula from our shelves until we feel confident it is safe to feed. If you have this product in your home, please return it to your local pet store where you bought it.
The affected lot numbers are:
#22660 and #22664
The Best By date is: 12/2025

We have no plans to pull any other Wild Coast Raw products at this time, and we feel certain that all other formulas are safe to feed.

If you are seeking temporary alternatives to poultry, or a different type of food, please ask us for recommendations, we are happy to assist you in choosing a safe and biologically appropriate food for your pet.

Things you can do to protect cats from bird flu:
🐥Keep house cats indoors
🐥Prevent cats from eating wild birds
🐥Wash your hands after interacting with poultry
🐥Wash your hands after touching bird feeders
🐥Temporarily feed canned or gently cooked food
🐥Wipe your shoes with anti-viral wipes or leave shoes outside the house

Things you do NOT need to do:
🐥 Stop feeding raw or freeze-dried pet food
🐥 Switch your pets to kibble
🐥 Stop feeding goat milk or colostrum
🐥Cook your raw pet food

On Wednesday, we had the distinct pleasure of hosting the founder and formulator of SmallBatch Pets! 🤩
David Vogel is a humble, intelligent and kind man who connects easily with just about anyone. He has been formulating pet food for over 20 years and he is a luminary in the raw and fresh pet food industry! 🥩🥦🥕

It was super fun that coincidentally, 2 dedicated SmallBatch customers came in while he was in the shop and both of them exclaimed, "You saved my pet's life!" That's gotta feel good. 😊
This is an excellent example of why we work exclusively with small manufacturers. Can you imagine the founder (if there even is one) of Purina showing up at a small pet shop in Hood River to meet the people selling his food? I think not.
David was very willing to be put on the spot by both staff and customers. He answered Joy's questions about the recent concerns over avian flu (all SmallBatch poultry is sourced from small farms in Northern California and flock testing is mandatory before birds are harvested) He answered staff questions about manufacturing practices and safety protocols, and he generally made himself available to anyone, to ask any questions they had. He also talked about how difficult it was to continue manufacturing pet food through covid, due to facility shutdowns. Hope we never face that again!
Anyhoo, it was great to connect with David and it made us all feel so thoroughly confident in recommending and selling dog and cat food.

👋🏼 Hello!

A lot of times when I'm talking to a customer about raw feeding, I'll recite my whole spiel, the person will listen patiently and then they'll ask, "What do you feed your dog?"

Well, here is a photo of Nova's breakfast this morning. She is a 65lb English Pointer and she's around 4 years old. As you can see, this meal has a lot going on! 🥩🥚🍠

I have fun putting her meals together and they're never the same. I rotate proteins, brands, local, seasonal veggies, cooked foods and raw foods, whole body parts and ground meats. She always has a chaser of raw goat milk and a small meaty treat to finish up. 🥛🍗

I watch her eat to see what she chooses first (almost always organ meat) and what she chooses last (almost always vegetables.) I know this may seem little excessive for most people, but I honestly don't think it's unreasonable.

You don't have to go to great lengths to make a difference in your dog's health. You can add simple foods, like an egg or cooked chicken, bone broth, a spoonful of yogurt, or canned sardines, these small additions make a big difference! And if you're up for going in whole hog (or cow, or turkey or duck) then let's talk. 😊

It is important to achieve a nutritionally balanced diet over time, so if you're going to give it a try, be sure you do your homework (not google homework) talk to someone knowledgeable in raw feeding or home cooking, start with a premade food or a good recipe, ( is an excellent resource, and we sell it in the shop) and know that even if you change 10% of your dog's diet to fresh foods, you are taking a huge step toward better health and longevity.
