💔🐴 Some days in rescue change your heart all over again. 🐴💔

The last few weeks at Whiskey Acres Animal Rescue & Sanctuary have truly defined the phrase, “You never know what today is going to bring.”

Today brought us a neglected miniature donkey who desperately needed some help.

He has a long story behind him, but that isn’t what’s important. What’s important is that he is now safe and going to be taken care of. Please no rude comments as the owner did what is right and today started a new chapter for him.

He will be seeing the farrier on Tuesday, and we will also be getting him a full medical evaluation so we can begin addressing his needs and helping him feel comfortable again.

Also, Today carries an even deeper meaning for us.

We cleaned out Whiskey’s stall. 💔

For those who have followed our journey, you know what that stall means. It has sat as a reminder of the little pony who touched so many hearts and left a hoofprint on ours forever. It has been hard to imagine another animal standing in that space.

But as we prepared it today, we couldn’t help but smile through the tears.

Because if there’s one thing we know, it’s that Whiskey would want his stall to continue doing what it was always meant to do — helping animals heal.

So tonight, JD (Jack Daniel’s) will lay his head down in Whiskey’s stall. A place filled with love, second chances, and hope.

The last couple of weeks have been emotionally exhausting and financially overwhelming. Between emergency rescues, medical cases, neglected animals, and now this boy, the bills continue to pile up. But every time we wonder how we’re going to keep going, all of you show up.

After 48 hours it has come to our attention that he does, in fact, attack…….

📣TAZER UPDATE!📣

Today was quite the day for our Tazer boy, but once again he proved what a truly special dog he is. ❤️

This morning, Tazer headed to the veterinarian and was examined by Dr. Vought. You could tell he wasn't comfortable with all the touching and handling, but despite everything he has been through, he stood there quietly and never made a peep.

After his examination, Tazer was sedated so the two remaining taser barbs could finally be removed. He did test positive for Lymes (no shocker there) and has been started on medication.

When he came back home, he spent the day doing what every dog deserves to do — relaxing, feeling safe, and soaking up all the love he could get. He even earned himself a pup cup for being such a brave boy. 🐾❤️

He also enjoyed several walks today and is already making progress with the leash. (For those keeping score... we didn't lose a single leash today! 😂)

What has amazed us most over the last 24 hours is what we haven't seen.

We haven't seen aggression.

We haven't seen snarling.

We haven't seen growling.

We haven't seen a dog looking for a fight.

Instead, we've seen a dog who is scared. A dog who is confused. A dog who clearly hasn't had much positive human interaction in his life. Yet despite being placed in several situations that would make any dog uncomfortable, Tazer never once reacted aggressively.

Now, did he throw us an occasional side-eye? Absolutely. 🤣 And honestly, after everything he's been through, we think he's earned that right.

As we sit here tonight, we can't stop thinking about how close this sweet boy came to losing his life yesterday.

A dog who was labeled "aggressive."

A dog who was nearly euthanized without anyone taking the time to truly know him.

A dog who simply needed patience, understanding, and someone willing to look past the fear in his eyes.

And tonight, Tazer is proving that sometimes what looks like aggression is really just fear wrapped in a broken heart.

We don't know what tomorrow holds for him, but we do know one thing:

Tazer will never have to face it alone again.

It’s a new day for Tazer. Talia is currently enroute with him to Vought Veterinary Services to get the taser barbs removed and an examination.
