Happy May! April was our busiest month in the farm stand since we opened it last year! Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to support our small farm. If you haven’t stopped into the farm stand yet come by and check it out! The farm stand helps support the cost of the farm and feeding everyone so we truly appreciate all of our customers.
Just a friendly reminder: the farm stand is open to the public and operates on a self-serve basis, the rest of the farm is NOT open to the public. We understand that everyone wants to see the animals however due to safety (for visitors and our animals), liability, and privacy (we do live here,,,) we cannot allow the general public to wander around the farm. We do plan to participate in farm day this year, and are considering having another open farm day too, stay tuned for those dates if you are interested in seeing our set up!
Lastly, I have a list of updates below for anyone who cares to read them!
Eggs: Due to feed costs starting 5/1 chicken eggs will be $7.00 a dozen. Duck eggs will remain at $8.00 a dozen. We love seeing the amount of locals who stop to purchase their eggs from us. We held off as long as possible with this price increase and hope people will continue to choose farm fresh eggs over grocery store eggs even with the small price increase.
Compost: Compost is available in the farm stand for $5 a bag! This is the same compost we use in all of our gardens every year. If you have a garden and need some compost stop by and grab a bag!
Baby Chicks: We have a few local preschool classrooms who will be hatching out chickens for us this month. We are excited to provide a place for these chicks to go after the preschoolers get to have this experience. These chicks should also help us keep chicken eggs in stock once they mature and start laying!
Meat Chickens: At the end of March we received our first batch of meat chickens (well in recent years), we have been raising these birds and they will get processed this month. These birds will not be for sale. Once the birds are processed we will be going over our total expenses for raising the birds and decide whether or not we are going to raise chickens for sale next year!
Pigs: At the end of this month we will be picking up our first pigs! We purchased these young pigs from From Hens to Heifers, a small farm in Maine. We are excited to be able to provide fresh high quality pork next year after they are processed.
Veggies: Our gardens will all get planted this month! We will get our veggies into the farm stand as soon as we can so stay tuned!
Flowers: We are doing a trial with some small cut flower gardens this year, we are hoping to be able to have some small flower bouquets in upcycled vases available in the farm stand over the summer!
