Originally established as an egg and chicken farm in the 1950's by the Nickerson family the farm evolved into what it is today, specializing in turkeys and fresh local produce. In addition to the store located on Prentice Street, Out Post has an additional fifty acres of field and orchard located on Highland Street near the Holliston/Ashland line.

Over the weekend we had our first hard frost. Though our summer crops have perished, some of our cold weather crops have gotten better!

Carrots actually get sweeter after a frost. When temperatures drop, carrots convert carbohydrates into simple sugars like glucose and fructose. The sugars act like a natural “antifreeze” and protects the water in their cells from freezing. A neat survival trick that gives us the best tasting carrots of the year.
