🧪💉 Thirsty for Knowledge Thursday 💉🧪

Did you know that pets can’t always tell us when something’s wrong—but their bloodwork can? 👀🐾

Just like humans, pets benefit from routine wellness bloodwork, even when they seem healthy. Here’s why it matters:

🔬 Detects hidden illness early – before symptoms show up
📊 Establishes baseline values for future comparison
🫀 Monitors organ function, like kidneys, liver & thyroid
💊 Helps us choose the safest medications, anesthesia, and diets

🗓️ We typically recommend annual bloodwork for adult pets and biannual screening for senior pets (ages 7+).
It’s one of the best ways to keep your furry family member thriving! 🐶🐱💕

📞 Give us a call or ask about wellness panels at your pet’s next visit—we’re happy to walk you through the options!

Knowledge is power—and prevention is the best medicine. 💡❤️

🔎 Thirsty for Knowledge Thursday! 🔍
Let’s talk itchy pets 🐶🐾🐱

Did you know that allergies are one of the most common reasons pets visit the vet? From seasonal triggers to food sensitivities, there’s a lot that can cause your pet to scratch, lick, or chew. 😖

Here’s where YOU come in 👇

💬 Which of these do YOU think is true?
A) Cytopoint is a steroid 💉
B ) Apoquel and Cytopoint work exactly the same way 🧬
C) Cytopoint is safe to use in puppies as young as 3 months old 🐶
D) Benadryl works better than anything else for itchy dogs 💊

🧠 Drop your guess below! The correct answer will be revealed this evening 👇

📌 BONUS: If your pet has ever dealt with allergies, share your experience—we’d love to hear what helped!

🎉 Meet the Staff Monday 🎉

Today, we’re excited to spotlight someone who’s been part of our family for nearly a decade — long before she even became a veterinarian — Dr. Jessica Geiermann!

Jessica’s love for animals started early and led her to pursue a degree from Shepherd University, followed by her DVM from Virginia Tech (go Hokies! 🦃). She worked at our clinic while still in school and has grown right alongside us over the years.

With experience in high-volume small animal practice and a deep passion for pet wellness, Dr. Geiermann brings skill, heart, and dedication to every patient she sees at Cumberland Valley Veterinary Clinic. She is also Fear Free Certified, helping to ensure each pet’s visit is as low-stress and comfortable as possible.

Outside the clinic, she stays busy with her husband, son, four dogs, and a beloved horse. She’s also an avid fitness enthusiast who enjoys horseback riding, working out, and tackling Spartan races.

We’re so proud to have Dr. Geiermann as part of our team — combining compassionate care with a commitment to keeping pets happy and healthy! 💙🐾

🐾 But f***l screenings are an important step in protecting your pet’s health! 💩Fecal antigen testing helps us find intestinal parasite infections that other types of testing may miss. Bring a sample to your pet’s next visit 🐕🐈 and ask us about year-round parasite preventives! 🗓️🛡️

💦 Thirsty for Knowledge Thursday! 💦

On these hot days, we’re not the only ones feeling thirsty — our pets are too!

Here’s a quick fact:

👉 Dogs need about 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight each day — and even more when it’s hot!
👉 Cats are prone to dehydration because they naturally have a low thirst drive — so wet food can help boost their water intake!

💡 Tip: Make sure fresh, cool water is always available — and clean bowls daily to keep bacteria at bay.

Stay cool and keep those water bowls full!

🌟 Wellness Wednesday: Senior Pets Edition! 🌟

🐾 We love our gray-muzzled friends—let’s celebrate them today!

💬 Tell us in the comments:
✨ How old is your senior pet?
✨ What’s their favorite way to spend the day?

👩‍⚕️ Wellness Tip: Senior pets (age 7+) benefit from twice-yearly wellness exams to help detect age-related conditions early—because they deserve the healthiest golden years!

📸 Bonus: Share a photo of your senior pet—we’d love to see their sweet faces!

🌞 Tip Tuesday: Keeping Pets Safe in the Heat! 🌞

With this heat wave, it’s more important than ever to protect our furry friends. Here are a few ways to help them stay cool:

✅ Always provide plenty of fresh, cool water. Dehydration happens fast in hot weather.
✅ Avoid walks on hot pavement. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!
✅ Never leave pets in parked cars — not even for a minute. Temperatures rise dangerously in seconds.
✅ Offer shade and limit exercise. Early mornings and evenings are safest for outdoor time.

If your pet shows signs of heat stress — excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or collapse — contact us immediately.

👉 Stay cool and safe out there!
