🥵With the summer heat, remember to check your pet’s water bowl more frequently!

Pets can’t sweat like humans. They cool down through panting and paw pad sweat, so staying hydrated is critical for regulating body temp.

Fireworks may be fun for us, but for pets, they can be scary, and the booms often continue well past the 4th of July. 🌩️ Thunderstorms and other loud noises can trigger anxiety too.

If your pet is showing signs of stress, don’t hesitate to reach out. We can discuss treatment options to help your pet feel safe and secure year-round. 💙

Fourth of July is this Friday! Our office will be closed on Friday for our staff to enjoy this time with their loved ones, and will not be available that day to get last minute medications. Please make sure to keep your Fur Babies safe this weekend during all of the local firework displays and If your baby requires to be medicated during fireworks, please call our office prior to Thursday afternoon to allow enough time to get these medications filled for you.
Some other tips for a safe Fourth of July with your pets:
⭐️Keep your pet indoors - Don't bring pets outside during the fireworks! loud pops and booms could easily startle your pet and cause them to run away.
⭐️Provide a quite place - Prepare a place for your pet such as a quiet room, pet carrier, or crate to help them feel secure.
⭐️Give them a distraction - Treat toys such as kongs filled with their favorite treat may help keep minds busy and distracted. Soothing Music or White noise machines can help reduce the noise level of the fireworks.
⭐️Microchip & Id your pets - Pets should always have proper identification tags with up-to-date information. Microchipping is highly recommended and also make sure this information is up-to-date.
⭐️Take your normal evening walk earlier in the day - Some pets may be too frightened to go out once the fireworks are done popping and this will this will be a good way to tire them out so they can rest later after the fireworks.

As always if you find yourself in need of emergency veterinary services please reach out to Mountain View Animal Emergency in Hagerstown at 301-733-7339 OR Partner Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center in Frederick at 301-200-8185.
