Heat stroke in dogs is a serious, life-threatening condition that can develop quickly in hot or humid weather. Because dogs don’t sweat the way humans do, they rely mostly on panting to cool themselves, which isn’t always enough in extreme heat. Early signs include heavy or rapid panting, excessive drooling, bright red or very pale gums, weakness or stumbling, rapid heart rate, vomiting or diarrhea, and in severe cases, collapse or seizures. Prevention is key! Never leave dogs in parked cars, avoid exercising them during the hottest parts of the day, and always provide shade and water while outdoors. Heat stroke can escalate quickly, so recognizing the warning signs early is critical to protecting your pet’s life.
