Meet our sweet girl, Millie! She is a true survivor. After being hit by a car, she had to undergo double orthopedic surgery and was at risk of being euthanized. But we couldn't give up on her, and she fought her way back to health! 💪✨Millie is completely healed, incredibly resilient, and ready for her happily ever after.
Come meet this precious girl, give her some ear scratches, and see if she is the perfect fit to join your family! 🏡🐶

🐾 The Miracle of Angus(Salt at shelter) A Lifetime of Love 🐾Some dogs leave an eternal mark on our hearts, and then there is Angus. 7 Years ago, an Indiana shelter reached out to us about an older dog they were scheduled to euthanize. He had been dumped, hit by a car, and was left incontinent with bladder and bowel issues. We couldn't let his story end there, so we took him in. We gave Angus all the love in the world, and he stayed with our rescue family for an amazing 4 years before the most perfect family stepped up to adopt him. 3 years ago today, he went to his forever home. A senior when we first got him, we assumed he had a few golden years left. But guess what? That was 7 years ago. Today, sweet Angus is still going incredibly strong! Angus’s story is a beautiful reminder that with patience, understanding, and unconditional love, special needs rescues can thrive for years. He is living his absolute best life, and he remains one of the most memorable rescues. To Angus’s amazing family: thank you for giving him the forever home and life he so deeply deserved. You are heroes! Jessica Thomas Higgins

Pheobe needs her hero, she is a Staffordshire Terrier mix; she is approximately 2 years old weighs around 50lbs., spayed and up to date on shots She is long and slender with a beautiful black coat with white accents.

Phoebe is an athletic, high-energy dog with a bouncy, enthusiastic play style that includes playful nipping and frequent, joyful zoomies

Phoebe would like her humans to have an active lifestyle who enjoy walks and a family with children who are old enough to handle her enthusiastic play style along with engaging with phoebe both mentally and physically. (e.g., playing fetch, teach tricks). If there is another dog in the family, they would need to be confident so Phoebe does not take advantage.

Phoebe arrived at IACS as an injured stray. Phoebe was brought in with a large abdominal wound, suspected to be from a gunshot. She was found bleeding in a front yard, unable to stand and showing signs of distress. Upon arrival, she was friendly and allowed handling without issue. A physical exam revealed several injuries, including a large abdominal wound, irritated skin on her mammary chain, pelvic fracture and muscle atrophy from being unable to stand. Pheobe was transported to Heartbeat4paws vet and is currently healed.

🙄❤️Vet visit tomorrow!

When we first took in Bella, this sweet girl was 100% bald and struggling with undiagnosed thyroid issues. Fast forward to today, she’s thriving, fully "hairy," and has the most gorgeous coat! She goes to the vet tomorrow to get her thyroid levels checked, but she is ready to start looking for her forever family! Bella has the biggest personality. She is currently perfecting her ultimate, grumpy "pouty" face—because let’s be honest, nobody actually wants to go to the vet. But beneath that cute sass is the sweetest, cuddliest face, who just wants a safe, loving place to lay her head, be loved and take naps. 🌿

Officially retiring from the holiday weekend! 🐾 These three rescue pros partied so hard (eating treats and napping, mostly) and are now on strict snooze patrol. Memorial Day weekend is a wrap, and we are just here for the comfy cuddles and maximum chill. 😴💤Drop a 😴 in the comments if your crew is just as wiped out today!

People always tell us, I could never foster or adopt a special needs or hospice dog. It would hurt too much to say goodbye. We get it, the pain of losing them is real, heavy, and heartbreaking. But if you protect your heart so you never have to feel that grief, you also lock out the purest, most beautiful joy in the world. When you take in a dog that has been overlooked, abused or neglected, you aren't just giving them a soft bed, you are giving them a family, dignity, and a peaceful ending they otherwise never would have known. Yes, their time with us is short. But the transformation in their eyes, and the love they give in return, makes every single second of the heartbreak worth it. Don't let the fear of a painful goodbye stop you from giving a dog the beautiful life they deserve. You aren't just their caretaker; you become their whole world. 🐾❤️

A Heart-to-Heart From Our Rescue Team 🐾❤️
Every day, our hearts break a little more. Across the country, shelters and rescues are completely at capacity. Here at Heartbeat4paws, we focus exclusively on special needs animals who require intensive care, which means we cannot accept owner surrenders. We know that life throws unexpected, incredibly difficult challenges your way. We understand the pain of feeling like you have no options left. But right now, the safety net is full. The rescues cannot save every animal—we need our community to step up. When you bring a pet into your life, it is a lifetime commitment. They are not temporary additions; they are family. If you are struggling with your pet, please consider these steps before choosing surrender: Exhaust all options: Look into local pet food pantries, behaviorists, or veterinary assistance grants. Do your research: Seek out training guides and community resources to solve behavioral or lifestyle changes. Rehome responsibly: If keeping them is truly impossible, act as your pet's advocate. Rehome them yourself to a trusted friend or family member instead of leaving them at a crowded shelter. Please remember: you are your pet's entire world.
