Surgery Day for Noodles!

You may remember Noodles from her pre-op visit when she had retinal testing and an ocular ultrasound. Since then, she’s undergone cataract surgery to restore her vision.

During the procedure, the cloudy lens was removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens, allowing light to reach the retina again. With careful monitoring every step of the way, Noodles did beautifully.

She’s now looking around at her world with brighter eyes, and we couldn’t be happier for her!

Before cataract surgery, we complete a full set of pre-operative tests to ensure your pet is a safe candidate for anesthesia and has the best chance for a successful outcome. Sweet little Noodles had retinal testing, an ocular ultrasound, and blood work as part of her cataract surgery prep. She was a superstar patient from start to finish!

Gryphon is one of Dr. Pate’s sweetest patients, visiting us for care of Golden Retriever Uveitis.
His gentle nature, friendly personality, and signature “hugs” make every appointment a joy.
We’re so grateful to his wonderful mom for sharing these photos of Gryphon enjoying life at the lake and posing with his equally handsome golden brother, Traeger.
Here’s to many more adventures, Gryphon!

Employee Spotlight: Meet Ameer!

Ameer is our Veterinary Technician and Nursing Manager at Carolina Animal Eye. With years of experience in veterinary medicine and a special passion for ophthalmology, he’s a steady and skilled presence on our team. He is always advocating for patient comfort and excellent care.

When he’s not in the clinic, you can find him outdoors, traveling with his wife, or supporting Atlanta United Soccer.

We're grateful for all he brings to the team!

Shoutout to Ameer’s iconic flip phone! Some things never change, and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sweet Fraggle came to us with painful corneal ulcers in both eyes due to severe dry eye.
We performed urgent corneal repair surgery in both eyes, including a conjunctival graft surgery in his left eye, to repair the damage and protect his vision.
At his 2-week recheck, he looked so much more comfortable.
His surgical sites are healing well, and his dry eye is now being managed with daily drops.
We’re so glad to see him feeling better! His family is doing an amazing job with his home care.
We are looking forward to seeing him again at his next recheck!

Cherry eye occurs when the tear gland of the third eyelid prolapses, forming a red “mass” at the inner corner of the eye. If left untreated, it can lead to chronic irritation and reduced tear production—potentially causing painful dry eye.

Dr. Pate corrected this condition using a pocket imbrication technique, which repositions and secures the gland—preserving its natural function and promoting healthy tear film.

Swipe to see:
1) Pre-op: Pr*****ed gland
2) Immediately Post-op: Gland repositioned
3) Two Weeks Post-op: Fully Healed

Early surgical repair not only restores a normal appearance to the eye(s) but also protects long-term ocular health. If your dog shows signs of cherry eye, contact your veterinarian or seek a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist.
