We are a 24/7/365 veterinary emergency and specialty hospital located in Greenville, South Carolina. Our team provides medical care to pets in SC, NC, GA, TN, and beyond. We offer a broad range of advanced medical technologies and skilled, compassionate care in a state-of-the-art facility. Specialty care includes cardiology, critical care, dentistry & oral surgery, internal medicine, neurology & n

eurosurgery, oncology (medical & radiation), and surgery (orthopedic, soft tissue, minimally invasive). Our hospital accepts patients in need of specialty care by referral only. This means that your regular veterinarian must contact us prior to you making an appointment. A referral is NOT needed for emergency care. Our team works in conjunction with your primary care veterinarian to create the best medical care plan for your pet and your family. Upstate Vet is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. We choose to be continually evaluated for accreditation by AAHA, because it challenges us to stay at the forefront of all the latest changes in veterinary medicine and practice operations. AAHA has truly helped us reach our goal of providing the best in personal, quality care for our patients and clients. In 2011, Upstate Vet (under the Upstate Veterinary Specialists hospital name) was honored for its work by receiving the award of Specialty Hospital of the Year in North America from AAHA.

Happy Thanksgiving from Upstate Vet 🦃🧡

This Thanksgiving, we are grateful for the strength of our patients, the love of their families, and the incredible team that cares for them every day.

Pictured here is Gator, one of our brave Radiation Oncology patients. He’s currently undergoing radiation treatment for an a**l sac carcinoma — and today, he’s also the cutest turkey around. ❤️

If your pet needs emergent care, our ER is open from 8 AM to 2 AM today. Wishing you and your pets a safe, cozy holiday! 🍁🐾

As Thanksgiving approaches, we want to take a moment to highlight the hearts behind the care. 🧡

A few of our team members paused to reflect on the season and share what they’re most grateful for. From the wagging tails and gentle purrs to the trust you place in us every day, we are truly thankful for YOU—our incredible clients, patients, and community. Your support is what allows us to continue doing the work we love, and we couldn’t be more appreciative. 🐾

For those who may need us over the holiday, our ER will be open from 8 AM–2 AM to ensure your pets continue to receive compassionate care.

Today we’re sharing a very special testimonial from Dr. Bumgardner, who recently found herself on the client side of care with her sweet Mable.

We’re deeply grateful to Dr. Bumgardner for sharing her experience and for trusting our ER and Neuro teams during such a stressful time. It’s an honor to care for the pets of the people who care so deeply for others. ❤️

Meet Lacy, a sweet 5-year-old Yorkie who visits our neurologist Dr. Rennie Waldron each month. 💕

Lacy was diagnosed with meningoencephalitis in 2022 after experiencing seizures. This condition involves inflammation in and around the brain, and in many small dogs it’s thought to be related to an overactive immune system. Because it can cause ongoing neurological symptoms, long-term treatment and monitoring are important.

To help manage her condition, Lacy comes to visit us once a month for cytarabine therapy. Cytarabine is an immunosuppressive medication that helps reduce inflammation in the brain and keeps her disease in remission. Regular monitoring and consistent treatment are key in helping dogs like Lacy maintain a good quality of life—and she has done an amazing job throughout her journey.

Lacy is always such a good girl for her visits, and she never fails to brighten our day. We’re so happy to be part of her care. 🐾

✨ Celebrating Excellence in Client Care ✨

We’re thrilled to share that Selena, one of our incredible Client Service Representatives, has been honored with a CSR Above & Beyond Award! 🏆

This prestigious award recognizes just a few CSRs from nominations across our network of hospitals nationwide — celebrating those who go above and beyond in creating meaningful connections, advocating for clients and patients, and embodying a commitment to compassion and excellence. 🐾

Selena’s nomination perfectly captures why she was chosen:

This sweet 1-year-old Goldendoodle, Bunny, recently visited our ER for vomiting. An abdominal ultrasound performed by our criticalist, Dr. Amanda Kuhl, revealed foreign material in her stomach — a belly full of leaves! 🍁🐶

Our surgeon, Dr. Erin Baysinger, performed surgery to remove them. Bunny is now recovering well and already feeling better! 💛

She’s pictured here with Dr. Kuhl, Dr. Baysinger, and Mickey — part of the team who helped her through it.

Dachshund overload! ❤️

Meet Willie, Millie, Lylla and Chewy — four brave pups who are just 2 weeks post-op from their hemilaminectomy surgeries with our neurologist, Dr. Rennie Waldron.

Dachshunds are known for their adorable long backs — but that unique shape also puts them at higher risk for spinal issues. They need a little extra TLC when it comes to protecting their spines.

Here are a couple ways to help keep your dachshund’s back healthy:

🐾 Use pet ramps or steps to avoid jumping on/off furniture
🐾 Keep them at a healthy weight to reduce strain on the spine
🐾 Support their back when picking them up — one hand under the chest, one under the hind end

All four of them are making great strides in their recovery — way to go, little warriors! ❤️
