Hopper amazes us every day with what he’s able to do on 3 legs 🥹❤️

Hopper is a 1 year, 7 month old, 66-pound sweetheart who captures hearts almost instantly. He is a tripod after having a damaged leg amputated and he has adapted INCREDIBLY well 😌 His mobility and confidence are impressive, and his three-legged status does not slow him down.

He is easy to get out of the kennel, eager but manageable when leashing up and appears to be house-trained 🦮 Hopper walks nicely on leash, especially for a young dog of his size, and moves comfortably and confidently. He truly enjoys being outside and thrives when he has space to explore and move.

Hopper enjoys car rides and is excited to load up, though he may need a little help getting into taller vehicles. He’ll talk a little at first but settles with time, particularly when given something appropriate to chew on 🩵 He loves toys, enjoys playing fetch, and is very treat motivated. Hopper takes treats gently and even knows sit.

People are one of Hopper’s favorite things. He is affectionate, social, and leans in for attention. He happily accepts pets from new people and has done well meeting older children 🥰 He enjoys being close to his people and clearly values human connection.

✅ Around other dogs, Hopper displays loose body language and wagging and may bark out of excitement or to express himself. In general, he is a bit of a talker and has an opinionated, grumbly way of communicating that many people find endearing.

Hopper is a resilient, loving, and playful young dog with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He is ready for a home that will appreciate his affectionate nature, his joyful energy, and his unique way of communicating with the people he loves.

Committed to rescue ❤️ Kozeetah came to us through animal control after a neighbor discovered her with her deceased owner. It’s a heavy way to enter the shelter system, but she’s safe now and being cared for.

Despite everything, Kozeetah is very friendly and social. She does well with other dogs and has been easy to handle with staff. She’s small, scruffy, and has that classic terrier confidence mixed with a sweet, curious personality.

Our medical team is currently evaluating her for a marble-sized growth on one of her toes. Because of this, Kozeetah is looking for rescue placement so she can get whatever care she needs in a more stable setting.

She’s only 13 pounds, young, and very adoptable with the right support. She just needs someone to step up for her.

If you’re a rescue interested in helping Kozeetah, please reach out to our rescue coordinator Jennifer at [email protected].

Meet Dunford 🐷

Dunford was found as a stray about two weeks ago after wandering into someone’s yard, and our Animal Control team came out to bring her to safety. She’s estimated to be around 3 years old and is well over 100 pounds. She’s a big girl with an even bigger presence.

Dunford is currently looking for either a rescue placement or an adopter who has experience with pigs and the proper space and setup to care for one. Because of her size and needs, she’ll require someone who understands what it takes to provide appropriate housing, enrichment, and long-term care.

We don’t get pigs in often, and when we do, it’s a reminder of how important the right connections are. Whether that’s a rescue stepping in or an experienced individual ready to adopt, Dunford just needs the right match.

If you’re a rescue, an experienced pig owner, or know someone who might be able to help, please reach out: 📧 [email protected]

Let’s get Dunford into a place where she can truly thrive.

Adopted 2/9 ❤️ Our volunteers keep saying the same thing. She is a doll. She does not have a mean bone in her body.

Cushion is a 3 year old 57 pound girl who’s soft in every possible way. She came to us timid and unsure of the world but she warms up fast when snacks are involved.

She is gentle, quiet, and so sensitive that loud noises or fast movements make her shrink back. Even with that, she has never shown an ounce of aggression.

She walks beautifully on a leash and does best with people who move slow and respect her space. She is head shy but not shut down. She comes alive with treats and patient handling.

Cushion has also shown positive experiences with other dogs in our care. Cushion would thrive with a rescue that understands fearful dogs and can give her a calm environment, steady structure, and time to adjust.

This girl has all the makings of a safe, sweet, loyal companion. She just needs her people to help her feel brave.

One look into Simba’s soulful eyes tells you everything you need to know about this gentle, easygoing boy. At 5 years old and 75 pounds, Simba is a calm and steady Shepherd–Pit Bull Terrier mix who’s as handsome as he is well-mannered. He’s a pleasure to walk, settling quickly into a relaxed pace on the leash. While he may pull or react when he sees other dogs, he’s easily redirected and happy to keep moving once his focus is back on his handler. Simba prefers to be the only dog in the home so he can have all your love and attention to himself.

On a recent Dogs Day Out adventure, Simba showed what a wonderful companion he truly is. He stretched his legs in the play yard, showing flashes of playful energy, then settled into his signature calm walk on the trail. He hopped right into the car on his own, quietly enjoying the ride while gazing out the window. During a long hike and picnic at the park, Simba was content to lie by his handler’s legs, perfectly happy just being close to his person.

This smart boy already knows sit, down, and come, and he’s eager to please. He’s treat-motivated, takes treats gently, and behaves beautifully in public settings when given guidance. Simba isn’t interested in chasing wildlife and doesn’t bark, growl, or whine—just a quiet, steady presence by your side. He enjoys head rubs, loves affection, and was calm and patient even during his bath.

Simba’s beautiful coat and big, kind heart make him stand out, but it’s his easygoing nature and loyalty that make him unforgettable. As an owner surrender, he’s ready for a new beginning with someone who will give him the companionship, consistency, and love he deserves. Simba is the kind of dog who just wants to be near his person—and in return, he’ll give you steadfast friendship and endless affection.

If you are interested in pulling Simba for rescue, please reach out to our Rescue Coordinator Jennifer at [email protected]

🚨 Bruno Mars Needs out ASAP

Bruno Mars isn’t just a cute name — he’s a survivor with a heart that deserves a chance. 💔 This 2-year-old, 25-pound shepherd mix has been staying strong despite some orthopedic challenges that make shelter life especially tough for him. He’s been such a good boy through it all, but he needs a safe, comfortable home where he can finally rest and heal.

Here’s what makes Bruno amazing:
✅ Sweet, affectionate, and loves his people
✅ Crate trained and appears housetrained
✅ Rides perfectly in the car
✅ Patient during bath time
✅ Obsessed with toys and loves to play
✅ Melts into you for cuddles at night

Bruno’s still got that young dog energy and can get a little mouthy when he’s excited, so he’s looking for an adult-only home with someone patient and experienced who can keep guiding him.

Right now, what Bruno needs most is comfort and stability. His orthopedic issues mean the shelter is not the right place for him long-term — he deserves a soft bed, gentle walks, and someone who’ll give him the love and care he’s been waiting for.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now’s the time. Bruno truly needs someone to step up for him.

📍 Visit Guilford County Animal Services any day between 12 and 4 (closed Tuesdays) to meet this incredible little guy.

🚨 URGENT: Sunset & Marmalade are 4-week-old kittens with ringworm who aren’t eating at the shelter.

Our vets have started teaching them how to eat, but they need continued care, patience, and gentle hands to get through their journey.

They cry for comfort and attention, wanting nothing more than to be held and loved. These kittens desperately need a rescue, foster, or adopter ASAP to help them heal. They’re not even a pound yet 💔

Please reach out to our foster coordinator at [email protected] to foster or [email protected] if you are a rescue.

Mini – Senior Terrier, 11 lbs, 10 years old 🐾

Mini is a tiny terrier with a big personality. At 10 years old and just 11 pounds, she’s now looking for placement with a rescue who can help her navigate her senior years with the support and medical care she needs.

Mini has several age-related changes, including ocular changes and a few small growths/masses that should be monitored by a veterinarian. We recommend her new rescue or adopter follow up with their regular vet after placement to establish ongoing care and complete a senior wellness exam. While she is sweet in many ways, Mini can be a little snappy at times — likely related to her age and medical needs — so she would do best with a rescue experienced in handling seniors who may have some s***k.

Despite her quirks, Mini is a deserving little dog who simply needs the right soft landing. She has a lot of life left to live, and we know she’ll thrive in the right rescue where patience, experience, and compassion come together.

Meet Dora!

🐾 8 years old | 31 lbs | Husky Mix

Dora is a gentle, timid soul who has been through a lot. When she first arrived at the shelter, she was very scared and unsure of her new surroundings.

With time, patience, and lots of love from our staff, she's beginning to open up and show us her sweet personality.

This quiet girl will do best in a calm, understanding home where she can continue to learn that people can be trusted.

Dora may take a little time to come out of her shell, but once she does, you'll see just how special she is.

Urgent help needed for Buddy!

Buddy, his sister and Mama were all found as strays on August 15th by Animal Control and brought to the shelter.

Unfortunately, Buddy's sister tested positive for Parvo. Buddy and his Mama have tested negative and are currently being monitored closely by our medical staff.

Since Buddy is only 3 month old, we are seeking urgent rescue for him so he can be moved from a stressful shelter setting into a quiet home. He is a very cute Lab/mix puppy and weighs 20.5 lbs.

Please share!! If you are interested in helping Buddy, please reach out to Rescue Coordinator Jennifer Welch at [email protected].
