Azalea Update Day 11:
Azalea is continuing to heal well! Azalea and her “foster Grandpa” love each other - both are super snuggly personalities! We need to work on Grandpa’s manners though so he learns to share comfy beds with babies 😉
Azalea’s vet called to check on her and foster relayed Azalea is feeling good and doing great! (We love our vets ❤️)

She is developing her personality and becoming curious (like a normal puppy!) Azalea wants to play with Foster’s cat(s). When Azalea came on too strong to play with one of their cats, cat “batted” her a couple times and Azalea learned to distance herself from cat. She is learning that it’s ok to watch and show calm friendly interest 😍Her amputation site doesn’t seem to bother her much, as she doesn’t try to lick it very often. However, fosters still watch her very closely and always put a cone on when she is crated. She is walking well on 3 legs and has learned to go up down 2 stairs to backyard! Her remaining back leg is getting stronger, but still a little wobbly when she squats to go to bathroom.

Hooray for our lil survivor Azalea!
We will be giving updates less often as Azalea is doing well now and there will be less to tell her supporters.

Our volunteers & fosters will be busy this Saturday helping other GRHS doggies get adopted! Come visit us at Chow Down GJ this Saturday from 10-12pm to see our adoptable dogs.

Meet Walter (Wally for short). 🐾🫶🏼
He is a gorgeous 1-year-old male Black lab who was hit by TWO cars about 1.5 months ago that gave him a badly broken leg. He was taken in by GRHS and had surgery on his leg. He has been recovering in a loving GRHS foster home and is doing wonderful! 🐾
Wally’s fosters say he is loving and playful, and loves other dogs. How can you resist that face?! He has about 1 more week of healing prior to his official clearance and back to normal activity. This guy is going to make the best addition to someone’s family! Apply to adopt Wally today!! 🫶🏼

THANK YOU to everyone who donated to Azalea’s recovery care!!!
We also want to thank everyone who shared her story and sent positive thoughts towards her recovery. While we do not know what her total vet costs will be yet, we believe we have enough donations to cover her medical costs.

Grand Rivers Humane Society (GRHS) is excited to announce the beginning of “Azalea’s fund” to help other dogs and cats like Azalea who have extensive medical costs. GRHS is the local shelter that takes in extensive medical injury cases (both dogs and cats). This means when GJPD/Mesa County Sheriff’s Office or Mesa County Animal Services is contacted about an injured dog or cat, they contact GRHS - and we always say that we will help. We constantly have at least 1-2 injured animals in foster care with extensive veterinary costs. For example, we currently have a dog named Wally in foster care who is a large black lab that was hit by two different cars and fractured his rear leg in two places. He underwent orthopedic surgery with Dr. Respet and is healing well. Most of our injured animals do not get the publicity that Azalea’s story did, so we often struggle to pay for veterinary care in these situations.

Please help GRHS to spread the word about Azalea’s fund - together we can help many more injured dogs and cats recover and then find a loving forever home!

Look at this gorgeous mama!!
Meet Sweetheart! This pretty lady was found by a few good samaritans while on a hike. Thankfully, we were able to get her into a foster home before giving birth to her 5 kittens. Everyone is happy, healthy, and thriving! She will be available for adoption, along with her kittens very soon.

Happy tails for Fern!
This resilient girl was found by GJPD’s incredible animal control team with a broken pelvis and hernia. In the comfort of one of our amazing foster homes, she was able to make a full recovery. She is now playful, curious, and active as ever! Thank you so much to her loving adopters, and caring foster homes.

Meet Reba! 🐾✨❤️
She is a happy, fun, and intelligent 1-year-old female brindle colored purebred American Pit Bull Terrier. She LOVES her people and the 4 dogs she lives with in her foster home. She also likes cats and kids! She rides well in the car and walks fairly well on leash. She has been in a loving GRHS foster home where she was able to decompress from the shelter and become a great little doggy! ✨
She knows basic commands and is a good listener. She is very eager to learn new things! Her foster did a DNA test which is how we know her breed (without guessing). She loves toys and she can never have enough! She loves to run around and play outside with other dogs. She is crate-trained and house-trained. She loves laying on a cushy dog bed near her people and foster dog siblings. She is ready for her furever home and would love to meet you!!🐾🏠

Meet this week’s Celebrity Pet(s) - Zsa Zsa and Zazi 🎉🐾🐶❤️
They will be featured today on 🫶🏼

Zsa Zsa and Zazi are gorgeous 9 week old female weimaraner/boxer mix puppies! They are puppy playful and up for adoption starting this weekend at our adoption event. We also have 3 males and 2 more females from the same litter that are adoptable as well. They enjoy being around other dogs and have also been around cats. They enjoy attention, love being pet and are eager to learn all the tricks! Puppy adoption fee - $200

This sweet puppy with a severely broken leg is now safe in an experienced, loving Grand Rivers Humane Society foster home.

GRHS is waiting for vets to call back on what type of orthopedic surgery is recommended, surgery may be on 4/3.
Costs will most likely be from $1000 to $5000.

Tom is a superhero cat! He has been through a lot recently and was found by MCAS with broken/dislocated shoulders. That is why he is missing some hair in the chest area. However, he has recently recovered and is doing great! He loves relaxing in the sun and being held, he would do best in a quiet loving home where he can relax and enjoy a lazy kitty life! Tom is a 2 year old short-haired Black male.
