🐾💕Time for Happy Tails💕🐾

Sonny and Dotty came to the shelter from different backgrounds; Dotty was found roaming on the streets of Galveston while Sonny was an owner surrender. We don't know much about their lives before coming to us, but we do know that they both found wonderful loving homes to live out their lives.

Sonny is now Sammy and this is what his family had to say, "He is the sweetest and happiest little boy or “little man” as I call him. He has definitely made himself at home. The cold weather was not his favorite but he will always go outside to do his business and for that we are grateful. His previous home must have taken very good care of him as he always wants to go in the car and eat whatever you are eating and he is happy. He didn’t like his biscuits at first but I had some homemade chicken soup that I put a little bit on them and now he can’t wait for breakfast and dinner and I am happy to make the little bit of effort to keep him healthy."

Dotty's family told us, "We love our new addition to our family, Dottie Glover 🐶🐾❤️ Our hearts are full with our new furry friend. She truly is an amazing girl and we are so lucky to be blessed with her! She is thriving and doing well. She has a favorite toy, chicken 🐔 😄, which she carries with her everywhere. We are so lucky to have her in our "pack"! Bingo just loves his new friend 🐾❤️🐾❤️"

GIHS is so thankful for our amazing adopters, and we couldn't be happier they chose us to expand their families with.

Time to introduce the GIHS Pets of the Week – Molly & Diana Ross!

Hello there, I'm Molly. I'm young and full of life. Once upon a time, I was a TNR momma, caring for my kittens with all the love in the world. Now, I'm ready to share that love with you. I'm a gentle soul, with a sweetness that radiates from me. I have a soft spot for cuddles; they're my favorite thing in the world. I can't wait to curl up on your lap and purr the evening away. I promise, I'll be the gentlest companion you've ever had. So, why should you adopt me? Because I have so much love to give and I'm waiting to share it with you.


Meet Diana Ross! This Supreme lady is all ready to find Endless Love with her new family! And while she knows You Can't Hurry Love, she also knows there Ain't No Mountain High Enough to keep her from her family! In her time since being rescued from a crowded school bus, Diana has really been Coming Out of her shell and is desperately hoping that you Come See About her soon!

🏆Showcasing Our Seniors🏆

Did you know our shelter animals that are 7 years and older are consider silver paws and have a reduced adoption fee of only $25!?!

Not only do we provide a discounted rate for our senior animals, but we also have a senior discount for any adopter that is 65 years or older, making any animal (excluding VIP) $25!

We currently have 8 available animals that are considered seniors and we would love for them to find their forever homes and not live their golden years in the shelter. Only 2 of these babies are lucky enough to be in a foster home. These seniors are so sweet with many personalities. Some are couch potatoes, ball chasers, professional toy de-stuffers, and even a working cat. Many are kid and animal friendly while others would prefer a peaceful quiet home.

It's a beautiful day to help our fosters on their upcoming transport! ☀️Happy Foster Friday 🐾

We had lots of dogs going into foster and boarding in preparation for our upcoming transports! But we need some help from YOU! ANY amount can help! We also need 19 transport crates (airplane type) that are 40”-42”.

😍🐾It's Time for Happy Tails🐾😍

These striking young ladies were both found as strays. Lucky for them and their uniqueness they only spent a short time awaiting their new families. Sasha was adopted after only a week and a half. Cayenne was a little longer at a month and a half. We are so incredibly happy for these two beauties as they both landed wonderful new homes where they are very loved!

Sasha's new mom said " She is doing great and having minimal issues with the cat. She is too awesome a dog to have been alone as a stray"

Cayenne's dad told us "Cayenne is doing great. She has settled in well. We go for lots of walks. I am currently crate training and getting started on obedience training. She is eating well and has not had any potty accidents since our second day together."

Happy National Rescue Dog Day!!

We have so many wonderful animals at GIHS awaiting their families. Please if you are looking for a new companion adopt don't shop. We have an adoption special through the end of May- 50% off all dogs over 35lbs.

This beauty here is Tara, a 2.5 yr old female husky who is heartworm negative!

💙Meet Tara, the most beautiful blue-eyed lady in the shelter! This husky mix loves a good game of fetch or tug-o-war, but mostly she just loves laying next to her person and soaking up all the lovin'! Sweet Tara appears to be potty-trained and is always up for an adventure, whether it's a walk on the beach or a cuddle on the couch. 💕🐾Happy Tails🐾💕

Johnny Cash and June Carter were two extremely cute heartworm positive bulldogs that came to us after being dumped in our parking lot. Dumping animals is illegal and thankfully we have cameras that were able to prove who did this to these sweet babies. They were extremely thin and needed some medical attention when they arrived. After getting them healthy and altered we were able to make them available for adoption. We were hoping to get them adopted as a bonded pair but they each found a wonderful family to love them and that is the ultimate goal.

June's dad says "She is the best dog, very loved by all of us, she and the other dogs are getting along fine. She doesn’t leave my side."

Johnny Cash's (now Hank) family says "Hank is adjusting very well. He’s a huge snuggle bug and loves all the attention. He is a great sleeper through the night." His favorite thing is going to the baseball games with his new family!

Time to introduce the GIHS Pets of the Week – Mercury & Usher!

Hello there, I'm Mercury! I'm just a young guy, full of energy and love to share. My days are spent exploring my surroundings, playing with toys, and taking long, luxurious naps. I'm a friendly sort, always eager to greet new friends with a purr and a nuzzle. Cuddling? Oh, I'm a champion at that! I've been told I give the best snuggles around. My favorite time of day is when I get to curl up with someone and purr the hours away. I promise to bring sweetness and warmth into your life. I may be small, but my heart is huge. I'm ready to find a forever home where I can share all the love I have to give. Could that home be with you?


Meet Usher! This R&B crooner is ready to let go of his past and let it Burn! Usher told us his Confessions: he's Got It Bad, and is done and over spending his days in a kennel! We had two generous donations brought in this week!

Mr. Benjamin Powel donated $10,000 to the animals of GIHS.

Lafitte's Bar brought in a donation they having been collecting from the community since we took in the bus dogs.

Join us for the 4th annual walk benefiting the pets of Galveston Island.
Today, May 17th at 9am, we will meet in Pirates Beach at the end of Buccaneer Blvd.

We will have event registration on site!

👋HI GIHS FRIENDS AND COMMUNITY! 👋

In March, we had a very successful TRANSPORT of 10+ dogs to loving new homes in CANADA! Canada welcomed these dogs with open arms and hearts.
We have two more transports upcoming over the next two months, one again to Canada and a new one to Connecticut.

📣WE NEED SPONSORS FOR OUR TRANSPORTS!!!📣
It costs $1,375 per dog for this transport.
We need to board the dogs for 2-3 weeks depending on regulation.
The Canada transport dogs will begin boarding on May 20 for transport departure of June 3.
The Connecticut transport dogs will begin boarding on June 6 for transport departure of June 27.
All dogs are altered (spayed/neutered), microchipped, dewormed and vaccinated prior to leaving the state.

WE NEED YOUR HELP IN SPONSORING THESE WONDERFUL DOGS!

For more than 37 years, the Galveston Island Humane Society has been dedicated to promoting animal welfare and the protection and prevention of unwanted or homeless animals. Each year we continue to grow and improve our programs to help the animals. What does this really mean on an annual basis for our shelter?

· More than 60,000 meals served to our shelter animals.

· Providing more than 5,000 vaccinations to keep pets healthy and prevent the spread of disease.

· More than 50,000 cages or runs cleaned and sanitized to give animals a safe, healthy environment.
