Looking for comedy with a side of UFC? Meet George Burns! This playful little tabby loves nothing more than roughhousing with his brothers, perfecting his surprise spring attacks, and generally turning playtime into a full-contact sport. George is litterbox trained, endlessly entertaining, and ready to bring some pint-sized chaos to his forever home.

Sirius specializes in Accio Treats, advanced snackology, expert-level sniffing, and giving giant hugs to everyone he meets. He knows “sit,” appears potty-trained, and firmly believes strangers are just friends he hasn’t hugged yet.
He solemnly swears he’s up to no good 🙂 but mostly just the cuddly kind. 🖤

Galveston Island Humane Society has been incredibly fortunate to recently receive two generous donations from organizations committed to making a difference for animals in need.

The Women’s Association of Galveston (WAG) of Galveston Country Club presented GIHS with an incredible $13,618.50, generously fundraised in support of our shelter and the pets in our care.

We were also honored to receive $5,000 through Miranda Lambert's Mutts Across America program and Tractor Supply Co., presented by Tractor Supply Co., helping us continue providing care and second chances to the animals who come through our doors.

Gifts like these help provide food, shelter, medical care, enrichment, and all the little things that give our animals comfort while they wait for what comes next: a family of their own.

To WAG, Mutts Across America, Tractor Supply, and everyone who helped make these gifts possible, we thank you for investing in our mission and, most importantly, in the animals who depend on it!

We couldn’t do what we do without a community of people who care.

Meet the GIHS Pets of the Week, Aries and Comet!

🐾🐾🐾

Meet Aries, a 3-year-old gentle giant with a personality much softer than his mighty name suggests. This big gray guy can be a little slow to warm up and selective about his feline friends, but give him time (and maybe a scratch pad or two!) and you’ll find a cuddly, affectionate companion underneath. Aries previously lived with a teenager, so he’s no stranger to a busy household. Win his trust, and this big guy is all yours. 🩶

Meet Comet! ☄️ This gentle girl can be a little shy at first, but with some patience—and a few treats—her sweet personality quickly shines through. Comet loves following her nose, exploring at her own pace, and showing off her adorable “sit pretty” for a snack. She’s looking for a patient, loving home where she can build confidence and blossom into the loyal companion we know she can be.

🐾 MEET BO: A VERY SPECIAL MEET & GREET 🐾

At 12 years old, BO is currently our longest-term resident. His journey with us began when he and his owner were both found in need of medical assistance. BO spent several weeks at The Animal Clinic, where he was given the time and care he needed to grow stronger and healthier.

Since then, life has carried BO between the shelter and a loving foster home. His foster had nothing but wonderful things to say about him, and told us that, had circumstances been different, she would have happily kept him longer. But as a medical student, her academic journey eventually took her away from Galveston, and BO returned to us once again.

And still, he waits.

Thankfully, BO has made some friends along the way. ❤️ His story traveled far enough that the wonderful folks at Rita’s reached out and offered to host a special Meet & Greet just for him!

Today we’re breaking down the many ways even temporarily opening your home can make a BIG difference for shelter pets. From freeing up kennel space to helping animals decompress and showing us who they really are outside the shelter, fosters are an essential part of what we do.

Long-term or short, fostering makes a lasting difference. ❤️
