Today, we honor Juneteenthāa powerful reminder of freedom long delayed and a celebration of the strength, resilience, and contributions of the Black community.
On June 19th, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Texas finally received word of their freedomāmore than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth stands not only as a historic moment of liberation but as a continuing call to reflect on justice, equity, and the work still ahead.
At VRA, we observe Juneteenth to honor the past, reflect on the present, and celebrate the future we hope to help buildāone grounded in dignity, understanding, and compassion for all.
