Many clients and their pets will have been helped by our talented veterinary technician Beth over the past year. She has sadly had to take a leave of absence due to her partner's cancer diagnosis. Her partner Wil has served Montgomery County for years. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Brother Yu "William" Wu, a Master Fire Fighter at Station 7C in Chevy Chase is fighting cancer. He is currently in Suburban Hospital. We are working to provide financial and other assistance to him and his family. Additional details will be provided as appropriate. We have set up a Wu Family Assistance fund to help. We are asking for donations to assist William and the Wu family. Please help if possible and feel free to share.

We are very excited for this holiday season, and we hope you are too! However there are a few things everyone with furry friends should be cautious about. There are many things that you should be wary of, but here's a list of very common things.
-Foods~ As yummy as human food can be, a good portion of it can be very harmful to our four-legged friends. Foods such as: Grapes, Chocolate, Onions, Garlic, Alcohol and even Coffee aren't good for pets and can make them very sick. And in some cases can be lethal, so make sure you watch what your pet is eating. Watch out for bones as well, Chicken and Turkey bones are not good your your pets, they can splinter and cause punctures in the animal's stomach and digestive system.
-Holiday Items~ Many families like to decorate for the holidays, but there are some items we must look out for: Holiday lights, Christmas Trees, Decoration Hooks, Tinsel, Styrofoam, Fire and even Tree Water(for those who have a live tree). Just make sure your lovely pet doesn't get to these and you'll have a wonderful time.
-Plants~ there are many plants that are very dangerous to pets, so please be sure they don't ingest any.
-Cleaning Products~ Lots of families do a lot of cleaning this time of year, and that's great, but please make sure you are using pet friendly products and read instructions carefully.

We hope everyone enjoys this Holiday Season, Stay Safe!

During the governor’s Stay at Home Directive, many clients may be wondering when it is appropriate to bring your pets in to the veterinarian.

We at Montgomery Village Animal Hospital are dedicated to providing care for your pets, even in these difficult times. While we are very thankful for your business, as health care providers it is our responsibility to encourage everyone to follow the Stay at Home Directive whenever possible.

The Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners has recommended that all elective surgeries and procedures be postponed. An elective procedure is one that is considered able to be delayed by 3 months without undue risk to the current or future health of the patient. More specific guidelines have not been issued and realistically, many situations must be assessed on a case-by-case basis as there are many nuances that will determine what should be considered elective.

If you are unsure whether your pet needs to see us, please call to consult with us. We are happy to try to assess the situation over the phone and help you determine what is an appropriate course of action. We will continue to practice social distancing by getting your pet from your car and communicating via phone regarding history, exam findings, and treatment plan. We will continue to practice enhanced sanitation in the hospital.

Please join us in being responsible for the good of our greater population and especially, our human health care colleagues. Those that continue to serve us at grocery stores and other essential businesses are also putting themselves and their families at risk. Please try to minimize your visits to these businesses and question yourself if your errand is really necessary. Practice good hygiene and spatial distancing from your fellow citizens.
