Heat Stroke in Pets: Know the Signs

As temperatures rise, heat stroke can become a serious and life-threatening emergency for pets.

Signs of Heat Stroke:
-Excessive panting
-Drooling
-Bright red gums
- Weakness or lethargy
-Vomiting or diarrhea
-Difficulty walking
- Collapse or seizures

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heat stroke:
✅ Move them to a cool, shaded area immediately.
✅ Offer small amounts of cool water.
✅ Apply cool (not ice-cold) water to their paws, belly, and body.
✅ Contact your veterinarian right away or seek emergency veterinary care.

Prevention is key: Provide plenty of fresh water and shade.
Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle.
Exercise during cooler morning or evening hours.
Keep pets indoors during extreme heat whenever possible.

We’d also like to officially introduce our newest veterinarian, Dr. Stephen Teitelbaum!

Dr. Teitelbaum joined our team as our second veterinarian a few months ago, but many of you may already recognize him from his time working around the clinic as a veterinary technician.

A little about Dr. Teitelbaum: he graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College and is a dedicated animal lover. He also has a dog named Otis, who can often be found at the clinic each day greeting clients and enjoying plenty of attention!

We want to remind all of our pet parents to please check your pet’s rabies vaccination status 🐾

Over the past few months, there have been numerous reports across New Jersey of rabid raccoons coming into contact with dogs and other animals—often leading to dangerous fights and potential exposure.

Rabies is a serious and fatal disease, but it is 100% preventable with proper vaccination. Keeping your pet up to date not only protects them, but also your family and our community.

✔️ Dogs, cats, and ferrets should always be current on their rabies vaccines
