Simpson County KY Animal Shelter

Simpson County KY Animal Shelter We are NOT Animal Control and have no ability to pick up animals. A county owned facility managed by Friends of the Shelter.

We have a 5 day stray hold policy and after that time, animals are available for adoption or rescue. We scan all animals who come into the shelter for a microchip and will make contact with the registered owner associated with the microchip. Be sure to keep your contact information updated with the microchip company. If you are missing a pet, always come in to the shelter immediately to check if s

he/he is here. If the pet isn't microchipped or your contact information isn't correct, then your pet is sitting here waiting for you to come look for him/her. Our goal is always to find the best fit for our animals. All applications are reviewed and verified by our Board of Directors; application information and interaction between the animals and the potential adopters are part of the decision making process. Adoption decisions are not based on who sees the animal first or who places the first application. Therefore, there isn't a benefit to putting in an application before you have physically come to the shelter to meet the animal you are interested in adopting. Visiting and spending time with our shelter pets is the very first step in the adoption process. It is very unlikely, certainly not typical for us to make a same day adoption. Adoption fees for dogs are $95 unless the dog is sponsored, then the adoption fee is $50. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm testing and microchip. Adoption Applications & Adoption Agreements are available at the shelter and they can be downloaded at our website: https://simpsoncokyanimalshelter.org/

Do you want to sponsor a shelter pet? Information on how you can do that is at our website: https://simpsoncokyanimalshelter.org/

Lexi is one of our longest residents here at the shelter. She has a rescue commitment but is in need of a foster. You would be fostering directly through the rescue that would be pulling her from the shelter. Lexi would do best in a calm home with no other animals. Message us if you're interested in helping this sweet girl

Let’s talk about this little spark plug. Piggy has become a shelter favorite quickly. He came in as a stray and has won everyone’s hearts over.

He’s small. He’s mighty. And he grunts like a pig when he gets excited.

He seems to be good with other dogs. He loves all humans and just wants constant human interaction.

Unsure on cats but will test him Tuesday.

Let us know if you’re interested! Unless sponsored, his adoption fee is $95. That includes his neuter, microchip, da2ppv vaccine, rabies vaccine, heartworm test and heartworm preventative. 🙂

If you know anyone looking for a sweet pig dog, send them our way. Or tag any rescues that may be interested.

As always, we appreciate you guys so much. Have a great Sunday!

Imagine if this was your view. Day in and day out people would come by and stand in front of your cage and stare at you. They would tell you to sshhh if you barked. Some would cry if you looked sad. Imagine people reading the info on your cage and just moving on. Imagine being on display like furniture in a storefront. Can you imagine?

Dogs that are in a shelter cage can feel scared and vulnerable. They often times are anxious and depressed. When looking for a forever family member please take all of this into consideration. Spend time with the dogs outside of their cages. Choose based on your time together...not on what you see through those bars. Shelter life is not real life. Cages can make the gentlest soul appear "crazy" or "aggressive" simply because he is scared.

When visiting a shelter or a pound please be aware of the broken hearts in those cages. Show them respect. If a particular dog acts up when you are in front of his cage please move on. He doesn't want to be on display and has nowhere to hide. Teach your children not to taunt the dogs by running or jumping around. This always leads to more chaos and stress for all.

Shelter dogs had families at one time just like you and I. Each of them has had their lives turned upside down through no fault of their own. Imagine being let down by humans over and over.
Put yourself in their place. Try to imagine.💔
Adopt a shelter pet.

The Friends of the Shelter is embarking on another big project that is badly needed for our shelter dogs. In 2022 we were able to add the PETIO to the shelter which is used every day for adoption meet & greets and provides an opportunity for our dogs to get out of the shelter & socialize with visitors. We accomplished this due to generous donations from our community.

This spring, we want to construct ten (10) brand new 10’ x 10’ kennels with concrete floors in the outdoor space around the shelter building. These safe, secure spaces will be used for our dogs to be able to get out of their 30 inches x 5 ft concrete kennels to stretch their legs and enjoy fresh air & sunshine. The concrete can be easily cleaned so that’s an important part of this project.
Adding these outdoor kennels will help the dogs have a better quality of life while living at the shelter. It will also help the dogs be more visible to potential adopters when they visit the shelter.

To accomplish this project, we must fundraise. Letters are being mailed out to businesses and organizations asking for financial assistance. Donations of any size can also be made through our website to this Special Project. Please help us spread the word.

THANK YOU!

Hey everyone, storms are coming. Please secure your pets. We are over capacity with no room for anymore. If you're missing a dog, please come in and see if they're here. If you're looking to add a family member, please come in. We are stressed, frazzled and frustrated and are doing our best, which isn't proving to be good enough. We're drowning in dogs
