Our next Traffic Safety Checkpoint will be conducted on Friday, May 23, 2025 beginning at 8:00 PM and lasting until 11:00 PM. Possible locations include:

1900 block of KY HWY 185
12000 block of Morgantown Road
5000 block of Three Springs Road
5000 block of Porter Pike

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) both endorse checkpoints as effective traffic safety programs. Studies have found that checkpoints reduce alcohol-related traffic crashes by about 20 percent. Another study showed that checkpoints reduce ALL crashes by 10 to 15 percent!

Checkpoints are not just effective at deterring potential impaired drivers, but they also serve as an effective method for enforcing driver licensing, vehicle registration, and vehicle insurance laws!

The US Supreme Court held in 1990 that traffic safety checkpoints are not an impermissible violation of the Fourth Amendment so long as advance notice is provided to the public.

The traffic safety checkpoint will be clearly marked and identifiable, as well as visible with extra scene lighting. This checkpoint will not cause an unreasonable delay to motorists and will last about three hours.
