A cute cat for attention... but really this post is about the tractor Quick Hitch, that heavy black metal thing in-between the tires and the tank.
I remember when I legit couldn't lift that thing. To add or remove it from the back of the tractor I'd setup a system of shims. Lift a couple of inches, wedge in some shims. Rinse and repeat.
Today I lift and hook it up with ease. This got me thinking about my time here on the Farm.
At the end of this year it will have been TEN YEARS of Farmer Wendy.
Here's the dirty truth.
I had ZERO experience with any of this. Five chickens, a hive of bees and I lived and grew up in the suburbs of Metro Detroit. Rochester. There are a lot fewer farms down there and my biggest experiences with farm animals were at the Detroit Zoo from afar and when Yates Cider Mill brings in the goat pen in the Fall. πŸ˜„ As for crops, there are some wonderful apple & berry upicks. That was the extent of my knowledge of Ag. But that's why I do this.
From the very beginning this has been a wild ride of learning how to run a business, tourism, big events, staffing, field trips, raising farm animals including livestock and reindeer, crop and agritainment farming while balancing being a single Mom. I think about the Boards that I've had the opportunity to serve on, the places that I've been honored to speak at and all of the News interviews spreading awareness of Ag education & Agritourism. This all has been an entire new world to explore and I've so enjoyed meeting everyone and learning SO MUCH!
Thank you for your support and your kindness to this first generation newbie. I promise to keep learning, working hard and create better and better Agriculture related experiences for you, your family and friends.
10 years deserves a celebration of sorts. What do you think that I should do to commemorate a decade on the Farm?

Agritourism Support Staff

Job details:
May - Oct We are open 10am - 5pm, Thu-Sun. Shifts for this position will be on a part day basis during those timeframes with the option to pickup more hours or even full day shifts.

Are you high-energy, outspoken, and ready to be the face of Frankenmuth’s favorite public heritage farm? We are looking for Support Staff who can thrive in the "midday rush." You’ll be doing a little bit of everythingβ€”from helping guests navigate the farm and managing admission tickets to ensuring our animals are safe and our visitors are smiling. This is a role that requires a mix of "farm-strong" physical ability and "Disney-level" guest service.
What You’ll Do:
β€’ Guest Engagement: Be a friendly, outspoken guide for families. You should love children and be comfortable talking to large groups.
β€’ Tech & Troubleshooting: Operate basic point-of-sale (POS) systems and help troubleshoot minor tech issues (scanners, tablets, etc.) on the fly.
β€’ The Heavy Lifting: This is a working farm. You must be able to lift and move up to 100 lbs (hay bales, feed bags, ect.) as needed.
β€’ Special Events: Be the "Surge Team" for our big festivals (July/August), Fall Fright Nights, and the Christmas Markt to bring in extra hours and pay.
Requirements
β€’ Age: Must be 17+ years old.
β€’ Availability: Must work Saturday & Sunday (11:30 am – 4:00 pm). Flexibility to pick up Thursday/Friday day, morning field trip shifts and evening Special Event shifts is a huge plus!
β€’ Safe Environment: As a family-focused destination, we maintain a 100% smoke-free and drug-free environment.
β€’ Background Check: All employees must pass a background check due to our daily work with children and school field trips.
β€’ Biosecurity Pro: We take animal health seriously. You must be willing to adhere to strict biosecurity protocols (uniform, hand washing, ect.).
β€’ Ruminant Restriction: Due to disease cross-contamination risks for our animals, you cannot own or live on a property with sheep, goats, or cows.
β€’ Personality: You must genuinely love animals and have the patience and enthusiasm to work with children all day.
Why Work at Grandpa Tiny’s?
β€’ Spend your weekends outdoors in a beautiful, historic setting.
β€’ Premium pay for special event shifts (Sunflower Festival, Fall Nights, and Winter Holiday events).

Animal Care Technician

Job Details:
May - Dec W-Su 7:30am - 10am
Are you a morning person with a deep passion for livestock care? Grandpa Tiny’s Farm is seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician to oversee the health and well-being of our animal family. Every morning you would be ensuring our animals are fed, clean, and ready to greet the public. This role is the backbone of our operationβ€”while the guests see the "magic," you are the one who ensures the highest standards of animal care and farm biosecurity.

What You’ll Do:
β€’ Daily Care: Execute morning feeding, watering, and health checks for all farm animals (livestock, poultry, etc.).
β€’ Sanitation & Maintenance: Clean all stalls, pens, and enclosures to ensure a healthy environment and a "guest-ready" appearance for our opening at 10:00 am.
β€’ Biosecurity Leadership: Strictly follow and enforce biosecurity protocols, including boot changes and disinfecting tools, to prevent the spread of disease.
β€’ Facility Prep: Assist with light farm maintenance and ensuring all animal-related areas are safe for both the livestock and the visiting public.
β€’ The "Heavy Lift": Routinely move hay bales, 50lb feed bags, and farm equipment. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.

Requirements:
β€’ Experience: Previous experience working with livestock (sheep, goats, cattle, poultry, or horses) is highly preferred.
β€’ Strict Biosecurity: To protect our animals from cross-contamination, you must not own, live with, or work with other ruminants (sheep, goats, or cows) outside of Grandpa Tiny’s Farm.
β€’ Professionalism: We maintain a 100% smoke-free and drug-free environment.
β€’ Reliability: You must be a "self-starter" who is reliable and punctual for early morning shifts, as the farm's daily schedule depends on you.
β€’ Background Check is required.
β€’ Personality: Must be friendly, outspoken, and love animals. While your primary focus is care, you may occasionally interact with early-arriving guests or school groups.
Skills We’re Looking For
β€’ Observational Skills: Ability to quickly spot signs of illness or injury in various animal species and follow our documentation protocol.
β€’ Troubleshooting: A "fix-it" mindsetβ€”if a gate latch is loose or a waterer is leaking, you take the initiative to address it.
β€’ Stamina: Ability to work outdoors in all Michigan weather conditions (rain, snow, or heat).
This is a very physically demanding position, but a great workout!

Field Trip Educator

Job Details:
May – Oct, mostly in the Spring and Fall months. 8:45am – 11am are typical hours, some field trips may take place after 11am.

Do you have a "teacher’s heart" and a love for the outdoors? Grandpa Tiny’s Farm is looking for energetic, reliable individuals to lead our School Field Trip program. You will be the "Chief Fun Officer" for groups of energetic students, helping them discover the magic of agriculture, heritage livestock, and farm life.
This is a seasonal, part-time role perfect for retirees, former educators, college students, or anyone who loves working with children and animals.

What You’ll Do:
β€’ Guided Learning: Lead groups of school-aged children and guardians through an educational station during field trips.
β€’ Hands-On Support: Facilitate interactive activities such as the corn maze, coop tours, and animal petting and learning stations.
β€’ Crowd Control: Keep kids safe, engaged, and on schedule while maintaining an upbeat, "outspoken" personality.
β€’ Animal Safety: Ensure both children and animals have safe, respectful interactions.

Requirements:
β€’ Passion for Kids: You must truly love working with children and have the patience to handle large, excited groups.
β€’ Availability: Must be available Thursday and Friday mornings during peak field trip months.
β€’ Safe Environment: We are a 100% smoke-free and drug-free environment.
β€’ Background Check: A background check is required for all staff due to our work with minors.
β€’ Farm Physicality: Must be comfortable being on your feet for several hours.
β€’ Biosecurity & Animal Health: You must adhere to strict biosecurity protocols to protect our animals.

Skills We’re Looking For:
β€’ Outspoken Personality: You aren't afraid to speak up and keep a group's attention!
β€’ Troubleshooting: Ability to think on your feet if a schedule shifts or a tech tool (like a tablet or scanner) acts up.
β€’ Friendly Demeanor: You are the face of the farm for teachers and parents.
