Weiss Centennial Farm

Weiss Centennial Farm Come see a working dairy farm! Call to schedule a tour! Weiss Centennial Farm was first purchased as vacant land from the U.S. Government. Our ancestor, Johann L.

Weiss, settled and raised a family on the rich abundance of the soil and with God's blessings. The farm has been passed down through the generations and Roger and Joanmarie, the 5th generation of Weisses, still operate the farm with very similar views. Our success is determined by the quality of care we offer to both the land and the animals that are part of the farm. God has blessed us richly and

we hope to continue to produce quality food for generations to come. Our farm is open to the public! The tours will inform visitors on the history of agriculture in our area, as well as offer a chance to see an operating farm up close. Call to schedule a time to visit and see our automated milking system, which we call "Johann" in honor of our ancestor. Johann is a Lely robotic milker, the one of the latest technological advances in dairy farming.

What a sunset 😍😍 Yesterday's rain showers pushed us out of the fields, but the freshly planted alfalfa and Soybeans really needed that drink!! This cultipacker helps firm up the seed bed around the seeds to help them sprout more uniformly.

It's beginning to look at lot like springtime here on the farm! The sun is shining and warm. We are getting tractors ready to prep the ground and plant, and we opened a new bag of in-shell peanuts to munch on between tasks.

Spring has sprung!

We had over half an inch of rain today...making the barnyard extra wet and sloppy. The cows sure didn't seem to mind, though! Beautiful sky in the west as the heavy clouds move out after sunset 😍

Tie-dye beds today! Tis paper shred season...we have several local businesses that bring us their shredded paper.

It is very absorbant and makes great bedding. We ask that they remove staples and don't include laminated or glossy paper in the shred for us. The calves will nose around in it and try a few bites out of curiosity...

Beautiful sunset last nice as we fed the cows 😍 The weather has warmed up some, and these 30°F temps feel like a heat wave!

The cows did well in the cold - they're much more tolerant of exceptional cold than exceptional heat. They prefer January to July 😅 I don't know if I agree!!! Haha

Today, we traveled to Gladwin for the annual meeting for our milk cooperative, MMPA.

The meeting allows for us to receive a co-op update including new product details, sustainability initiatives, dairy promotion updates, and more.

Our farm, along with many others, was recognized for high milk quality and farm hygiene. We are proud to be part of a co-op that strives to provide wholesome, high quality dairy products for our communities!

Fun facts from the meeting:
- Our co-op provides the butter for Costco's bakery in Canada, which makes the croissants and other products distributed in their stores throughout North America.
- MMPA bottles and markets Amul brand milk, available at Costco (and specialized markets). You can buy 6% fat Amul milk! (Coco Wheats are calling!)
- MMPA bottles the milk for Sam's Club stores (Great Value brand, but not on Walmart shelves)
- MMPA is partnering to distill milk permeate into low carbon ethanol, which can then be added to transportation fuel and even used to create jet fuel! Dairy byproducts have so many uses!!
