Saving Tails Animal Rescue & Outreach (STAR) is a non profit 501c3 comprised solely of volunteers dedicated to homeless, neglected, abused and chained animals. Our rescue mission is to heal, fix, microchip and find loving families for homeless animals. Our outreach mission is to educate owners of chained and neglected animals to improve their living conditions by providing supply assistance such a

s insulated dog houses, straw, quality food and vet care. We get dogs into kennels to free them from chains and we work to spay and neuter all the animals to break the cycle and where improvements cannot be made, we work towards a surrender to find a new home for that animal. We are working actively to improve local animal welfare laws and ordinances and we believe that burning both ends of the candle is the only way to accomplish our mission successfully. Just because a dog is on a tie-out or in a fenced-in area doesn’t always mean they’re safe ⚠️🐾

Kardi recently jumped the fence - but thankfully he was okay and we were able to safely get him back over.

Please always double-check your setups and keep an eye on those escape artists ❤️

Jack Update ❤️‍🩹

Thank you to everyone who has donated toward Jack's care. Because of your generosity, we were able to get him started on the emergency treatment he desperately needed to give him a fighting chance. He deserves that much.

Jack received bloodwork, stabilization treatment and surgery overnight. He remains hospitalized and is receiving around-the-clock care. At this time, his condition is still considered guarded, but we are doing everything we can with the resources available to help him pull through.

This was the second attack on the chain by a stray in less than a week, so at this time the severe infection that has taken hold in his face and neck are the main concerns.

We will continue to share updates as we learn more.

🚨Urgent: Jack Needs Us 🚨

Many of you know Jack. He's one of our OG outreach dogs and has been part of our program for years. We love him like our own.

This past week, Jack was attacked by a stray dog. Last night, it happened again - only this time it was much worse. Jack suffered injuries, including damage to his neck and ears and he needs veterinary care as soon as possible.

This is one of the heartbreaking realities for outdoor dogs. They are vulnerable and can't escape and they depend on us.

We need to get Jack to the emergency vet and the reality is that the extra money simply isn't there. Any costs for his care will come directly from the already stretched pockets of our volunteers unless we can raise the funds to help him.

We will share updates, estimates, invoices and his progress as we receive them. While we won't know the full extent of his injuries until he's been evaluated, we anticipate at least several hundred dollars in veterinary expenses.

Some of you may remember Zuko from our litter of 11 Lab puppies born back in November. 💔 These babies had a very rough start in life. They were critically sick as tiny puppies - aspirating milk, milk coming from their noses, struggling to breathe and battling severe pneumonia. We spent countless hours and *thousands* of dollars that we are still recovering from fighting to save them through multiple ER vet visits while vets tried to figure out what was happening. Tragically, we lost 4 puppies from this litter.

As the surviving puppies have gotten older, two have now been officially diagnosed with Megaesophagus (Mega E), and we believe many of those early complications were likely connected to this condition all along. They were simply too tiny and fragile at the time for anyone to fully understand what we were dealing with.

Now sweet Zuko needs help again. Thankfully, he hit the jackpot with the most AMAZING parents who love him endlessly and have done absolutely everything possible for him. Honestly, without them, he likely would not be here today. They have worked tirelessly alongside MSU Veterinary Hospital to get him stable, but his care comes with significant financial strain. Zuko has been struggling to eat, keep water down, and maintain weight. Right now, he requires a special prescription food to survive and stabilize.

Unfortunately, this food is over $3 PER CAN, and at his size he needs 4+ cans every single day. As you can imagine, the cost adds up incredibly fast. We are hopeful this diet won’t be forever, but it is what he needs right now. Because it is prescription food, it cannot be purchased directly through our wishlist.
