As pets age, medications often become part of daily routines. Create systems that work: pill organizers for multiple medications, smartphone reminders for dosing times, treat-dispensing methods for difficult pill-takers, and clear communication with all family members about who's responsible for what. Consistency in medication timing can significantly improve effectiveness!

Blood work can uncover things we can't see from the outside! It provides comprehensive insights into overall internal organ health and helps detect early onset of disease before pets show symptoms. For senior pets and those struggling with chronic conditions or that are managed on chronic medications, we recommend blood work every 6 months to catch changes early. Think of it as preventative maintenance for your pet's health engine. When was your pet's last blood panel?

Based on your pet’s unique immune system, fall can bring similar challenges that we see with summer allergies!

While outdoor allergens persist, indoor allergens like dust mites and mold can increase with closed windows and heating systems.

Watch for persistent sneezing, watery eyes, or skin irritation that doesn't improve. Unlike colds, allergies don't cause fever and symptoms tend to be consistent rather than progressively worse.

When in doubt, give us a call!

Cooler weather means longer, more comfortable outdoor adventures!

But senior pets or those with joint issues may need modifications. Consider shorter, more frequent walks on softer surfaces like grass instead of concrete, and warming up before vigorous play.

How does your pet's exercise routine change with the seasons?

October is Pet Cancer Awareness Month, and early detection is critical to potentially yield more positive outcomes.

Watch for lumps, bumps, changes in eating habits, lethargy, or persistent coughing. Many cancers are treatable when caught early, so don't wait to have concerning changes examined.

Regular wellness exams can help us catch problems before you notice symptoms. Schedule a check-up if anything seems different!

💔 Saying goodbye to Dr. Crockett
Our wonderful and beloved Dr. Crockett will be leaving our practice, her family has received an incredible opportunity to relocate to the Netherlands! While we are so excited for her new adventure, we will deeply miss her warmth, care, and the incredible bond she built with so many of you and your pets. Her last day will be October 16, so if Dr. Crockett is your pet’s primary veterinarian, please don't feel lost, we encourage you to contact our front desk soon to schedule with one of our other amazing doctors. Welcome to Park Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care

Park Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care was started in 1982 in a storefront location. We have been at our current facility for the past 27 years and enjoy its convenient location as well as the beautiful setting amidst our wooded area.

We feel the most important thing we do for our clients is providing the peace of mind that comes from knowing they have done well for their pets by having them cared for by us. We strive to always be advocates for pets, letting owners know the care that will be of greatest benefit to their pets’ long life and health.

Understanding the busy lives our clients lead, we are now open seven days a week and look toward adding even more open hours to each day for our clients’ convenience.

Park Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care enjoys serving the pets of Durham and welcoming them into our extending family of pets and their owners. If we can be of service to you, please feel free to contact us.
