🎃🐾 Halloween Safety Tips for Your Furry Little Monsters! 👻🐶🐱
Halloween is full of tricks, treats, and spooky fun, but it can also bring some unexpected dangers for our four-legged family members!
At Falconbridge Animal Hospital, we want everyone to have a safe and happy Halloween! Here are a few important reminders for pet parents:
🍫 Keep the Candy Away!
Chocolate and candies containing xylitol (also called birch sugar) can be extremely toxic to pets. Candy wrappers can also cause choking or intestinal blockages. Keep those treat bags safely out of reach!
🍇 Beware of Other Toxic Treats!
Raisins and grapes can cause serious kidney damage in dogs. Keep Halloween snacks and baked goods away from curious noses!
🎃 Watch Those Decorations!
Glow sticks, fake spiderwebs, electrical cords, and small decorations can be dangerous if chewed or swallowed. Keep candles and jack-o'-lanterns away from wagging tails and curious whiskers!
🚪 Prevent Door-Dashing!
With trick-or-treaters constantly ringing the doorbell, even well-behaved pets may become frightened or slip outside. Consider keeping your pets in a quiet, secure room during peak trick-or-treating hours.
👻 Costumes Aren't for Everyone!
If your pet enjoys dressing up, make sure their costume fits comfortably and doesn't restrict movement, breathing, hearing, or vision. Never force a costume on a stressed or uncomfortable pet!
🔊 Scary Sounds Can Be REALLY Scary!
Doorbells, screaming children, flashing decorations, and unfamiliar costumes can be overwhelming. Provide a quiet, comfortable retreat where your pet can relax.
🪪 Check Those ID Tags!
Make sure your pet's collar identification and microchip registration information are up to date in case they accidentally escape.
🚨 Know When to Seek Help!
If your pet eats something potentially toxic, don't wait for symptoms! Contact your veterinarian, an emergency veterinary hospital, or a pet poison control service immediately.
