Meet James Tuna, a 2 year old tabby from East English Village who arrived just in time for Pride Month and frankly? The timing feels correct.

This boy is pure charisma.

James Tuna loves attention, loves other cats, loves being held like a baby, and fully believes your lap, your bed, and your personal space belong to him now. He is playful, affectionate, endlessly curious, and makes the funniest dramatic facial expressions with his giant eyes like he is constantly reacting to invisible cameras.

He chases toys. He climbs everything. He explores like he pays rent there.

And while he gets along wonderfully with other cats and would thrive with a feline friend, his one true nemesis remains the ceiling fan. A rival he has not yet emotionally recovered from.

James Tuna has huge drag queen energy in the sense that he is theatrical, clingy, gorgeous, slightly ridiculous, and absolutely committed to making sure all eyes stay on him at all times.

He is not here to blend in. He is here to make an entrance.

If your home is missing a lovable little diva with main stage confidence and world-class cuddle skills, James Tuna is ready for his spotlight. So apply for him through the link in our bio!

May was an incredible month for Detroit Alley Cats!

We’re thrilled to share that 39 cats found their forever homes in May!

Among those adoptions were some of our longest-term residents, including a bonded pair who had been waiting with us for well over a year. Seeing them finally head home together was a reminder of why we do what we do.

From tiny kittens and devoted mamas to goofy personalities and shy kitties who just needed a chance, so many deserving cats found the families they had been waiting for.

We are incredibly grateful to our foster families for the love and care they provide, and to every adopter who chose to open their home to a rescue cat. Your support makes these happy endings possible.

June is shaping up to be another busy month, with many more cats looking for homes. Be sure to check our socials and website for available cats, and keep an eye out for upcoming adoption events.

Thank you for helping us change lives, one cat at a time. 🖤

Meet Caterpillar, a 12 week old void kitten from Highland Park who sounds less like a cat name and more like a creature your Dungeon Master warns you about before the campaign starts.

This little guy may be small, but he already carries strong “magical companion found in an enchanted forest” energy. He's curious about everything. New corners, new cats, new adventures. If something moves, jingles, crinkles, or looks even remotely interesting, Caterpillar is already investigating it with full commitment.

He is playful, soft, and incredibly sweet, with a quiet confidence that makes him easy to love. He especially enjoys being around other cats and tends to gravitate toward older ones like a tiny apprentice following the experienced guild members around the tavern.

Some kittens crash through life like barbarians. Caterpillar feels more like the strange little wizard companion that quietly follows the party around until one day everyone realizes they would die for him.

If your party is missing a pocket-sized void with mysterious energy and main quest potential, Caterpillar is ready to roll initiative. So apply for him through the link in our bio!

Meet Leah, a 12 week old dilute calico from Highland Park who absolutely gives “quiet party member with hidden depth” energy.

While her brother Warlock rolled high in chaos stats, Leah chose stealth, caution, and observing everyone from a safe distance before deciding whether you are worthy of her attention.

She is a little shy at first and much more independent, often choosing to hang around the older cats like a tiny apprentice studying under seasoned adventurers. They help her feel safe, and once she settles in, her softer side starts to shine through.

Leah is playful, and sweet. After she burns through her energy and finishes her important kitten business, she is more than happy to curl up nearby and enjoy the quiet company.

She's not the loudest in the room. She's the calm one watching from the corner until suddenly she is part of your routine and you cannot imagine the campaign without her.

Every adventuring party needs a thoughtful little mage.

And honestly? Leah is going to be somebody’s favorite character. So apply for her through the link in our bio!

Meet Warlock, a 12 week old void kitten from Highland Park with maxed-out charisma stats and a suspicious talent for casting spells directly on human hearts.

This little guy may be named after dark magic, but honestly? His strongest power is making people fall in love with him within five minutes.

Warlock is playful, cuddly, and incredibly sweet. Give him a little extra attention and suddenly you have a purring black blob curled up in your lap like he summoned himself there with magic.

He is curious, affectionate, and fully prepared to become your tiny shadow between zoomie sessions. Typical void behavior. One minute he is causing chaos, the next he is asleep against your chest like nothing happened.

Somewhere between familiar, side quest companion, and tiny gremlin wizard, Warlock has perfected the role.

If your campaign is missing a loyal little companion with velvet fur and critical-hit cuddle abilities, Warlock is ready to join your party. So apply for him through the link in our bio!

We can either stop taking in cats, or stop having emergencies, when it’s both we’re in trouble and need your help! Over the long weekend, when our partnered clinics are closed, any illnesses need to be taken to the urgent clinic which quadruples their costs.

Baby Benedict, our sweet and robust tuxedo sharply declined on Saturday night with his eyes rolling to the back of his head. His fever was so high he had to be held overnight - the ultimate blow. Thankfully he recovered in time and is back to his bubbly self like nothing ever happened! Turned out to be sepsis from an eye infection, which, good thing we caught in time - because that would’ve been game over if we had waited until after the weekend.

And Sunday sweet Lada, our gentle nursing mama came down with mastitis from nursing her babies. Thankfully that’s all that was and nothing more, but getting an exam and antibiotics over the weekend also came at a much higher cost.

Add to this all of Elle Belle’s tests from last week that we did to try to save her life to no avail, that we are still paying off. And the 100+ cats in our program, over half of which still need their essential vetting. As you can see, we are in the thick of kitten season and need your help to continue being a resource to the dozens of help requests we recieve each week!

Meet Eclipse, an 8 year old gentleman from Southwest Detroit whose entire life changed the moment somebody finally brought him inside.

After years surviving as a friendly community cat on Clark Street, winter came, the door opened, and Eclipse decided he was done fighting the cold. Done yearning for affection from the outside looking in.

The second you reach toward him, Eclipse leans in with these overwhelming little headbutts like he cannot believe affection is really his now. Then comes the signature move: the full head flop directly into your hand, trusting you to catch the weight of him.

It is hard to explain what that feels like until you see it yourself.

He is gentle in every possible way. Soft voice. Soft eyes. Soft little baby-goat meows at mealtime. The kind of cat who seems deeply grateful for every blanket, every pet, every quiet moment indoors.

Eclipse is still learning how to fully relax into this new life. He is building confidence toward becoming somebody’s lap cat after spending eight years without the safety to do so.

What he needs now is simple: patience, warmth, and someone willing to love a senior cat who never stopped believing people could be kind.

Because despite everything, Eclipse still chooses trust. And cats like that are rare.

Meet Leila, a 3 year old void queen from Morningside who spent early February showing up pregnant on her foster’s doorstep and has been embracing indoor life ever since.

And honestly? She was made for it.

Leila is sweet, chatty, affectionate, and fully committed to the luxury lifestyle now. She loves attention, loves being near her people, and will dramatically flop over for belly rubs like she has been waiting her whole life for someone to ask.

She is the type of cat who wants to be part of whatever is going on. Cooking dinner? She is supervising. Sitting on the couch? She is already headed for your lap. Picking her up for a quick cuddle? Acceptable.

She has also been an incredibly devoted mama, still cuddling and nursing her babies even as they get older. But this chapter of her life is closing, and for the first time, Leila gets to simply be someone’s baby too.

We estimate this was her first litter and absolutely her last. The streets are behind her. Motherhood is winding down. Her new era is soft blankets, affection, and uninterrupted beauty sleep.

Leila would thrive as the only cat in the home or alongside one of her kittens.

If you are looking for a loving, clingy little shadow with a lot to say and even more love to give, Leila is ready for her happily-ever-after era. So apply for her through the link in our bio!
