Not all pets like to be around a bunch of people -- and that's ok! If you're hosting visitors this Thanksgiving, keep an eye on your animals to make sure they aren't showing signs of stress. Placing them in another room or in their crate with a favorite toy can help keep them calm.

Even if your pet is comfortable around guests, keep a close eye on them as people enter and exit your home. It's all too easy for our furry friends to make a break for it and become lost among the holiday hubbub. Making sure your pet is microchipped and wearing a license is vital. That way, if they do sneak out the door, they're much more likely to be returned to you.

Over the next few weeks, we will be updating some of our kennels to improve the care, comfort and safety of our dogs. 🚧 To keep dogs safe during this work, several kennels must be temporarily closed, reducing the number of dogs we can house. As a result, we are temporarily restricting intakes to those that are court-ordered.

If you spot a lost dog, call us and our team will create a report, prioritize a call for service and walk you through the next steps. This does not affect our lost and found services, scanning pets for microchips and offering supplies to assist finders and owners.

How You Can Help:
🐶 All adoptions are just $20 through Saturday, Dec. 13. Every adoption opens up a kennel for another dog who needs us. View adoptable dogs: https://24petconnect.com/MCOHAdopt
🏡 Short-term fosters are also urgently needed during construction. The work is expected to take approximately two weeks, beginning Dec. 1. Not currently a foster with us? Sign up at https://mcanimals.org/get-involved/.
🐾 If you are affiliated with a current rescue partner that can assist and transfer dogs, call 937-264-5462 or send us an email at [email protected]. To become an approved rescue partner, sign up online at https://mcanimals.org/get-involved/.

Thank you for your support as we make these important improvements. 💙🐾

Foster a dog, save a spot!

We’re looking for short-term foster homes to help care for our dogs while we complete construction in some of our kennel areas. If you can’t adopt but still want to help, fostering is the perfect way to make a difference. We’ll provide supplies and support every step of the way. ❤️

We're hoping to get dogs into homes by Saturday, Nov. 29. Construction is set to begin Dec. 1 and is anticipated to last about two weeks.

Current fosters can reach out at 937-264-5462. New to fostering and want to help? Sign up at https://mcanimals.org/get-involved/.

Coal has been with us since September — one of our longest residents — and we still can’t understand why.

He is the gentlest giant you’ll ever meet: calm, patient, soft with treats and happy just being near you. He may not know tricks yet, but his kindness is his superpower.

After all this time, he deserves to be in a loving, forever home.

Come meet Coal at the ARC today. 🖤🐾

Today, we received a donation made in honor of a very special girl — Ginger. ❤️

It means so much when a family chooses to honor the memory of their beloved pet by giving back to other animals in need. We are truly touched by the McGriff family’s kindness and love.

Ginger’s legacy lives on in moments like this. 🌈🐾

Our Story

The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is a 24,000-square-foot open admission companion animal shelter. As part of our service to the citizens of Montgomery County, our agency takes in thousands of dogs each year. In addition to direct adoptions, the Animal Resource Center, part of the Dayton Alliance for Companion Animals, works with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and the SICSA Pet Adoption Center along with many placement partners to find homes for as many animals as possible. For more information, please visit our website: https://mcanimals.org/.
