🎉🐾 Happy Dogust, the Universal Birthday for Shelter Dogs! 🐾🎉

Not every dog in a shelter has a known birthday, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be celebrated. That’s why we mark Dogust as a special time to honor every amazing pup in our care and beyond. From the tiniest tail wagger to the biggest couch potato, today is for them 💛

And what better way to celebrate than by giving a dog the best birthday gift of all... A loving forever home!

🐶 This Dogust, we’re celebrating pups like Heaven and Mimi, two very different dogs with one beautiful bond. Heaven is a calm and loyal German Shepherd, and Mimi is a pint sized Yorkie with a huge personality. They remind us that love comes in all shapes, sizes, and breeds, and every dog deserves to feel safe, cherished, and home

The forecast is looking gorgeous, and we’re thrilled to be back at Downtown Dayton’s Art in the City tomorrow! Join us at the Levitt Pavilion between 1-4pm for a fun-filled day celebrating art, community, and, of course adorable animals!

Stop by our booth to meet some of our amazing adoptable pets, and if you’ve got little ones in tow, we’ve got a special coloring activity just for them! We’re proud to partner once again with Levitt Pavilion Dayton , Montgomery County Animal Resource Center , and SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center to share the love of pets with our community.

It’s Feel Good Friday, and we’ve got something amazing to celebrate—thanks to YOU, 258 animals found their forever homes in July! While many know us for our cat and dog adoptions, we’re proud to help all kinds of animals find love. This past month alone, we placed not only dogs and cats, but also rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters—and even a tortoise—into happy homes.

With a heat advisory now in effect for the Miami Valley and temperatures expected to be in the 90s for the next few days, we are encouraging pet and animal owners to take steps to keep their animals cool and comfortable.

Tip #10: Watch Your Pet Birds! Keep your bird's cage in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Light misting can help cool their feathers, but avoid direct sunlight near windows.

🐹✨ We’re overflowing with hamster cuteness! ✨🐹
We’ve got EIGHT Syrian hamsters at the shelter right now, and they’re all ridiculously adorable. Some even have long, fluffy fur that makes them look like tiny puffballs with feet. 😍

These little charmers are sweet, curious, and just the right amount of mischievous. Whether they’re stuffing their cheeks with snacks or doing dramatic spins in their wheels, they’re guaranteed to bring smiles.

🎩 Each one is a solo superstar (Syrian hamsters prefer to live alone)
🧠 Super smart and fun to watch

With a heat advisory now in effect for the Miami Valley and temperatures expected to be in the 90s for the next few days, we are encouraging pet and animal owners to take steps to keep their animals cool and comfortable.

Tip #9: Supervise Water Play! Not all pets are strong swimmers. Always supervise them around pools, lakes, or ponds, and consider pet-safe ramps or barriers for safety if you have a pool at your home.
