HART is a NO KILL shelter and adoption center for cats - a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation licensed by the State of Maine. We are a member of the American Humane Association, the American Partnership for Pets and the New England Federation of Humane Societies. HART is staffed mostly by volunteers who are dedicated to the well being of the shelter residents. We care for pets that would otherwise be

out on the street, assuring their safety, health, and comfort. It was custom designed for cat sheltering and offers our residents an open environment, with climbing structures and lots of comfy beds. This environment allows the cats the freedom to play, nest, and hide, as well as form bonds with one another. All of our animals receive lots of love and attention, as well as expert veterinary care.

Sunday is the final day of HART’s Yard Sale at the Cumberland Fairgrounds!

Yes, we’ve sold a whole lot of stuff (thank you, shoppers!), but there are still many household basics and great treasures to be found. The advantage to coming to the yard sale on Sunday is that there will be EXTRA special deals and discounts!

Here’s the scoop: Items priced $39 or less are by donation, and items priced $40 or higher are 50% off. Pawesome!

** Please note, this promotion excludes jewelry, bake sale, and select vintage/ premium items. **

We’ll be open from 8:00am to noon, so head on over to the Cumberland Fairgrounds and help us wrap up Yard Sale 2026. And remember, every dollar raised helps support the care of the hundreds of cats HART rescues each year.

Day 3 of HART’s Annual Yard Sale, and we’re excited for another fabulous day!

There’s the possibility of rain today, but that’s nothing to worry about, because our big yard sale is all indoors! Head on down to the Exhibition Hall at Cumberland Fairgrounds and shop for great deals and treasures, all to support HART’s mission helping cats in need. Admission to the yard sale is free, and our hours this weekend are:

Saturday 8/8 8:00am to 6:00pm

Sunday 8/9 8:00am to noon

Furniture, home decor, kitchen gadgets, small appliances, clothing, jewelry, toys, tools, sporting goods, bikes, garden equipment, holiday decorations, books, vinyl records, artwork, collectibles, vintage finds…you name it, you’ll probably find it! Your purchases will translate into essential funds that will directly help us continue our mission of providing shelter, food, and medical care for the hundreds of cats and kittens we take in each year.

Our very popular Yard Sale Sip & Shop Preview Event is back again this year!

That’s right, HART’s 2026 Yard Sale Sip & Shop Preview Event is happening NEXT WEEK, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Cumberland Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall. The admission fee for the Sip & Shop Preview Event includes exclusive early access to shop the yard sale, a beverage, and snacks. This is sure to be a fun-filled time, complete with live music by John Sayles, fabulous shopping, a gourmet pie sale, and of course, great conversation with fellow treasure seekers and cat lovers! **VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED TODAY AT THE FAIRGROUNDS**

Volunteers, it’s time to move Yard Sale operations to the Cumberland Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall, and we need YOU!

The weather forecast for today is great, so head on over to the fairgrounds (197 Blanchard Rd, Cumberland) anytime between now and mid-afternoon to help our team prepare the space, set up tables, and unload the trucks and pods. Team work makes this dream work, and any amount of time you can spare to help out today would be appreciated. Please be sure to check in with a team lead to sign in and verify your volunteer waiver.

Wow, yard sale donations have been great you guys! Thank you!

With less than 2 weeks until Yard Sale opening day, our volunteers are staying very busy preparing for the big event. Reminder that Phase 1 of Yard Sale donation collection wraps up today at our shelter, and we will not be taking donations on Sunday while we locate to the Cumberland Fairgrounds. Then, on Monday, July 27th, we’ll be back up and running for Phase 2 of donation collection,
at the back of the Exhibition Hall at the Cumberland Fairgrounds daily from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, until Monday, August 3rd at 12:00 pm. Please hang on to your especially big or bulky pieces, such as furniture and large sets of things, for just a little longer until we move to the Fairgrounds, where we’ll have much more room.

We are looking for your gently used furniture, vintage items, antiques, furniture, sporting goods, home décor, small appliances, kitchen items, clothing, toys, holiday items, books, collectibles, tools, garden gear, and more, all clean and in good working condition. Bonus points for bringing fully packed boxes or bins.

And as a reminder, there are items we CANNOT accept, including the following: cribs, car seats, mattresses/box springs, head/footboards, hazardous materials, freon appliances, large household appliances, bike helmets, large exercise equipment, tube TVs, broken items, and used pet products, and hardwired fixtures. Limiting certain donations helps us make the best use of our volunteers' time, reduce disposal costs, and maximize the funds raised for the cats in our care. We appreciate your understanding.

Each year, HART’s Annual Yard Sale grows stronger thanks to the support of donors, shoppers, and volunteers. In 2025, we hosted our most successful Yard Sale yet—raising over $107,000 to provide medical care, food, and shelter for hundreds of cats. With your help, we can have another record-breaking event!

Do we have better photos of Amie? Yes.

But do we love this one? Absolutely!

This lovely little cat recently returned to HART when her former guardian had to move and unfortunately was not able to take Amie with them. Described as a “best ever” kitty, Amie is an adorable, 7-year-old brown tabby with a really sweet personality. She loves bird and chipmunk watching, and loves to hang out in cat patios or on window seats and take in the fresh air.

Although she is missing her person and former home, Amie has been settling in well here. She is tolerant of her roommates, and is actually warming up to some of them. We think she could live well with another friendly cat in her new home, and we’re not sure how she would do with a dog. She’s ready to find the very best home. ❤️

We’re on our summer schedule, which means we’re open for adoptions Fridays 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Saturdays 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and other days by appointment. Our Adoption Team is looking forward to matching you with your next feline best friend, who just may be Amie in Room 2!

family and kitty will be reunited soon. Thank you for caring and sharing.❤️*

*****ATTENTION TOWN OF GRAY AND SURROUNDING AREA RESIDENTS*****

This black and white, male kitten was found as a stray on Gray Park in Gray on 7/18/26 and brought to HART today. We estimate him to be 5 months old, and he is not neutered. He has been scanned for a microchip, but unfortunately he is NOT microchipped. As a wiggly little guy, he has been hard to photograph, but we managed to get one clear pic!

If you are this kitten’s owner or know who he is, please contact our Medical Manager, Bobbi-Jo Dobbs, via email at [email protected] or leave a voice message on her direct phone line: 207-489-9526. Proof of ownership in the form of vet records, photos, and the ability to describe a few specific characteristics of this kitten will be required in order to claim him.

Please note that this kitten is NOT available for adoption, and our focus is on finding his owner. Please help us reunite this youngster with his family by sharing and reacting to our post. Thank you! ❤️
