We are now finally, fully, end-of-the-season closed. MANY folks showed up today and picked the bushes clean. Again, thank you all for visiting our farm, and we hope to see you next July! 🙂 🫐

Free Berry Day!

After waiting a few days to allow enough of our latest ripening variety to catch up, we will open one final day - tomorrow, Sunday the 23rd - for anyone who hasn't satisfied their yearning for blueberries. We'll be open 9:00 am - 6:00 pm.

Go to the far end of the field - the section marked by the silver-colored stakes. There'll be quart berry boxes on the picnic table, or you can bring your own containers. Bear in mind that in this section some berries are still not ripe, some are just right, and some are passed by and turning soft. So picking will take longer than earlier in the season, and you'll have to be more selective. Because our goal is to have as few berries as possible left on the bushes to go bad and fall, all the berries you pick are FREE. 🙂

Today a wonderful group of volunteer gleaners working on behalf of the Cumberland County Food Security Council (CCFSC) visited the farm to pick berries. They gathered many pints of blueberries and several pounds of apples. CCFSC works to end food insecurity and to ensure equitable access to healthy food for anyone who needs it. The selflessness of these folks is truly inspiring. Giving of your time for the benefit of others is the best gift to yourself. 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who shared our blueberry field with us and made this such a successful season! And a special shout out to those of you who showed up on Pay it Forward Day to donate your time and energy to pick berries for the Preble Street Food Pantry.

We met and swapped stories with hundreds of wonderful and interesting people, and that's the most rewarding thing about running a place like this. We're already looking forward to next season. 🙂

While our season has officially ended, we still have plenty of berries of our latest ripening variety that aren't quite ripe enough for picking. So we may reopen for just a couple days in a week or so when they're ripe, so that anyone who hasn't completely satisfied their craving for blueberries can do one last pick. I'll keep you posted.

We still have a decent amount of berries left, so we'll be open Sunday. There are a lot of berries on our latest ripening variety at the far end of the field that are about a week away from full ripeness though, so the tentative plan going forward is to be closed for several days after Sunday to allow those berries to ripen, and then reopen for a couple days to clean out the field - possibly the weekend of August 22 -23. I'll keep you posted. 🙂

Today saw a lot of berries picked, so it looks like the end of the season is upon us. We will be open on Saturday, and perhaps on Sunday, depending upon whether or not there are berries available after tomorrow. I'll let you know on Saturday evening. There are berries left, but if you plan to come out for a one last pick, bear in mind that you'll have to work a little harder than just a few days ago. Read the sign board to see where there are berries left, and look low, inside the bushes, and off the beaten path. You can still get your quart, but it'll take more like 20 minutes instead of 10.

There are some places nearby that may have more berries than we do. Bradbury Mountain Berry Farm's website (Pownal) says that they still have blueberries for picking, and Tavern Hill Farm in Windham reports having frozen wild blueberries for sale. Orchard Ridge Farm in Gorham may have berries left as well. Call ahead to be sure.
