I need to update previous post. My son pasted away on August 11th, I am heart broken. This past week I have been dealing with funeral homes, medical examiner's and emotions. Once funeral scheduled, I will post

I have had great volunteers helping at the shelter, but the store is closed. If you are in need of food, I am at the shelter from 9 to 11 each day.

Thank you for your patience with this ordeal.

A reminder: most fledglings don’t need help. They might be goofy and small, but if they can stand or hop and are covered in feathers, they’re likely fine. Their parents are on the case! A young bird only needs help if it’s naked or partly naked (that’s a nestling), injured or very lethargic.

If a fledgling is hopping in the street or in a high-traffic area, it’s OK to move it to a nearby bush or somewhere safer but only a few feet away! The parents must still be able to find the fledgling or it won’t be able to survive.

**Pigeons are an exception to the fledgling rules. Pigeons stay in the nest a full 4 weeks and look almost like adults when they fledge. A pigeon that looks small and still has fuzz on its head is a nestling and does need your help if it’s sitting on the ground.

Contact us if you’re not sure!

Who We Are

Seymour's has been a state-licensed exotic bird shelter since 2000. As we all know, in the bird world they live considerably longer than most pets, and their needs are quite different. The expense and noise levels are high and donations are seldom. We do allow some adoptions with specific requirements. Contributions are welcome. Refuge phone: (207) 829-5040.
