🐾 WHAT ARE YOU DOING SEPTEMBER 16?

Hopefully, you’re joining us for SCACCA CONNECT!

We’re bringing animal care and control professionals together in Lexington for a day that’s less about sitting through presentations and more about learning, talking, sharing, and connecting with people who understand the work.

A 45-minute interactive discussion about the tough placement decisions shelters make and the liability considerations that come with them.

💬 SCACCA Roundtable Discussions
We’ll spend the afternoon talking about issues our members have told us matter most to them right now. This is your chance to compare notes with other agencies, ask questions, share what’s working (and what isn’t!), and learn from each other.

🤝 And, of course, plenty of time to meet and connect with colleagues from across South Carolina.

🎟️ One more reason to come: Every attendee will be entered for a chance to win a FREE registration to CarolinasUNITE 2027!

🐶 HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating the dogs who make this work worth doing — the goofy ones, the scared ones, the seniors, the puppies, the “only dog” dogs, the “loves everybody” dogs, and even the ones who make us question all of our life choices before 9 AM. 😂

But National Dog Day is also a good day to recognize the people behind them.

Across South Carolina, animal control officers, shelter staff, veterinary teams, volunteers, rescue partners, fosters, and countless others show up every day to help dogs and the people who love them.

Some days bring happy reunions and new families. Other days bring incredibly difficult decisions. Through all of it, animal welfare professionals continue to show up, problem-solve, advocate, and care.

So today, SCACCA celebrates the dogs AND the people working every day to make their communities better for them. 💙🐾

📸 Now show us your dogs! Drop a photo in the comments — your own dog, your office dog, a shelter favorite, or one who made a lasting impression on you.

Happy National Dog Day from SCACCA! 🐕❤️

June is National Pet Preparedness Month — a perfect reminder for animal welfare agencies to help pet-loving families prepare now for hurricane season.

Emergencies can happen quickly, and pets are part of the plan. This is a great time to share practical tools with your community, including:

🐾 Making a pet emergency kit
🐾 Keeping ID tags and microchip information updated
🐾 Having crates, carriers, leashes, medications, and records ready
🐾 Knowing where pets can go if evacuation is needed
🐾 Planning ahead before a storm is in the forecast

This short Ready.gov video is a simple, shareable resource agencies can use to help families start the conversation and take action before an emergency happens.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUbSF_S20bE

SCACCA encourages animal shelters, animal control agencies, rescues, veterinary partners, and community organizations to share this video on your social channels throughout June to help pet owners prepare before hurricane season peaks.
