A Better Pet LLC provides services and recommended products to enhance the human-animal bond. We provide training for people and their pet or working dogs, individually and in groups. All services begin with the introduction of The Six Pillars of Dog Training Wisdom. This user-friendly multimedia approach helps guide owners into developing a relationship with their dog using positive, non-force-based methods. Our mission is to teach people how to become the Benevolent Leader — someone who teaches the dog what to do, in a way that makes the dog want to do it. Our other services include service dog training, Drop-In Play (DIP), specialty clinics, board & train (including puppy raising), Distance Learning, temperament testing, rescue/rehoming services and even cat training. We also make and sell the patented Har-Vest, a 3-in-1 backpack for dogs.

A little more grizzled, continued magnificence. I love this beast. Together since his birth.

It’s been a bit of an emotional week, and it’s only hump day! Celebrated another turnabout of the sun for my birthday and have so much to be grateful for; navigated the trauma of Franny’s death from a spay surgery that went awry in April of 2022, yet tried very hard to keep breathing after dropping Pinto off to be spayed. We both survived. Pinto came through with flying colors. Shout out to Petfix. So awesome. They knew my story (Franny was NOT taken to Petfix unfortunately, but a veterinary hospital.).

She was dropped off at 8 am and ready for pickup at 11 am. She is recovering well (can’t wait to get back to our long walks) , is rocking a perfect body suit and I’m giving myself lots of time to be near her.

How we get from training to a “Eureka” moment! The pups now understand the calmness required to receive treats and can enact it with no commands.

Eight years ago today the OG of my dogs, Franny, the mother and grandmother of the dogs I currently share my life with, gave birth to her first litter. In a new tradition, apparently, I selected Shamrock as my keeper of the 3. (Sisters Pixie and Mabel became service dogs for others — they are stories in there for sure! Someday I’ll finish my first book).

Eight years Shamrock and I have shared a life together, also welcoming his 1/2 siblings in January of 2021, and nieces and nephews in 2023, 2024 and 2026. He is my rock, my steady Eddie. A phenomenal bro and uncle and support for hundreds of dogs that have passed through over his lifetime. A handsome and well loved dog of DIPS, and an all around current standard bearer of a noble soul.

He reached an age his cherished mother never did, as she died an untimely passing in April 2022.

If you have any thoughts about this beast, would love to read them.

Things we do at DIP(drop in play, bonus benefit of training through A Better Pet)! Here DIP regular Eve managed an amazing and impressive EIGHT DOG SIT — long enough to get a photo! Took patience, some coaching and a little effort but very impressive, especially because her own dogs were flummoxed by it all and the pups Ora, Jib and Anchor are new to this game. Thanks to Puffin, Remi, Pinto, Shamrock, Nickel, Jib, Anchor and Ora for their cooperation!

Shamrock will be 8 later this month. This Libra is an all around magnificent beast who was born underfoot from the first litter that spans my second shift of hobby breeding (2018-2026). Shamrock was brother and littermate to Pixie and Mabel, and from Franny’s first litter.

He is in excellent health, at a perfect weight, and is well known as an exquisite if not slightly ocd dog who plays fetch with such panache. He’s a stellar traveler, big brother, uncle and all around a most abiding dude.

Saying bye is hard to do. Knowing they are heading off to their best lives makes it easier.
