ODNR is so fortunate to work with incredible women and our next Women's History Month trailblazer spotlight is one of them! Ohio State Parks Natural Resources Officer Leah Nairn is redefining what it means to serve.
Through her self-initiated project, “Redemption Through the Lens,” she uses photography and interviews to share powerful stories of recovery, giving dignity and visibility to individuals overcoming addiction.
Drawing on her experience as a former probation officer, Leah connects deeply with those she photographs, fostering empathy and reducing stigma. Today, as a Natural Resources Officer with ODNR, she goes beyond her official duties, volunteering at a homeless outreach shelter, often in uniform, providing food, toiletries, Narcan and hope.
Her work bridges law enforcement and community care, proving that healing begins with being seen, heard and supported. Recently honored by her peers, Leah’s mission continues to inspire change and transform lives. She was named Ranger of the Year at Ohio Parks and Recreation Association's conference in February and we couldn't think of a better NRO to receive the prestigious award!
