If you’ve ever wondered what I’ve been working on—and why my cat café suddenly got...weird—start here...
Welcome to Cat Cafe Confidential:
Where Cats, Coffee, and Cosmic Truths Collide
At first glance, this may look like a blog about starting a cat café.
But if you lean in closer—through the fog—you’ll see it’s something more.
This is a liminal space for dreamers, disruptors, and visionaries.
For those who feel the pull of the mystery and want to build a business that means something.
Inspired by the surreal beauty of David Lynch’s storytelling, we explore what it means to truly step into your role as founder—not just of a café, but of a movement.
👉 Here’s the first piece I want to share with you -
How Starting a Cat Café Is Like Living in a David Lynch Film:
A manifesto for the dreamers, the doula-founders, and the ones who sense the fog rolling in but step forward anyway…
Something strange happens when you decide to start a cat café.
Not strange like "I quit my job and now I make lattes while kittens nap on my keyboard" — that’s the surface-level narrative everyone expects. No, I mean the kind of strange that unspools slowly, like a record playing backwards in a dark room. The kind that makes time bend. The kind of strange where you become someone else... and yet more yourself than ever before.
This is the strangeness of stepping into the liminal. The metaphysical. The mythological. The Lynchian.
And if you're here, reading this, something in you has already heard the call.
The Red Room of Business
Opening a cat café is not just about coffee and cats. It's a descent into the subconscious. A red-curtained room in your soul. Like Agent Cooper crossing the border between worlds, you too step into a space where logic fractures and symbols take over.
You start by researching local laws, health codes, zoning. These are the "Daylight Things," what Cooper might call the known. But quickly, you're ushered into something else: Should your café be nonprofit or for-profit? Partnered with rescues? Self-run adoptions? Volunteer-based? Baristas or fosters? Spirits or spreadsheets?
These questions aren’t simple logistics. They are totems, each pointing to something deeper: Who are you becoming? What are you willing to sacrifice? What does care mean to you? Community? Control?
You wake up one morning and realize you’re not just opening a small business. You are opening a portal.
The Log Lady Is Your Advisor
In Twin Peaks, the Log Lady knows things no one else understands. She’s dismissed, until the truth starts unraveling and everyone realizes: she was right all along.
As a Cat Café Doula, you are the Log Lady.
You carry wisdom that comes from listening — to cats, to energy, to intuition, to ritual. You may not have the biggest Instagram following or the flashiest branding, but you know things. You know that success isn't just metrics. It's movement. It's memory. It's mythology.
And you’re not here to force the birth of someone else's dream. You’re here to midwife your own.
Owls Are Not What They Seem
In Lynch's world, symbols are always speaking. The owls, the woods, the static... everything is layered.
In your café world, it might be your POS system that glitches every full moon, or the one cat who always hides when customers show up. Maybe it's the customer who comes in every Tuesday, sits in the same chair, and whispers to the same cat.
These are not accidents. They are signs. They are the fog parting just enough for you to glimpse the shape of your business as a living dream.
When you're building something meaningful, the practical and the mystical don’t sit at opposite ends of the spectrum. They dance.
You aren’t just opening a business. You are communing with something larger than yourself.
The Myth of Linear Time
Most business courses are structured as step-by-step guides: "In Month 1, you do this. Month 2, you do that."
But Lynch doesn't give you a straight line.
And neither does cat café ownership.
Instead, you find yourself looping. Revisiting decisions. Rewriting your mission. Encountering challenges that don’t make sense until after you've moved through them.
So I offer you this: there is no wasted motion.
That moment you thought you failed? It was your Giant whispering, "You are on the path."
That delay? That was your timeline shifting to accommodate a deeper alignment.
You are not behind. You are becoming.
Through the Fog, Toward the Form
There will be days when nothing makes sense. When your cafe is quiet. When your launch flops. When your cats are sick. When you are sick.
And there will be days when someone walks in crying and leaves lighter because a kitten sat in their lap.
Both are true. Both are sacred.
You are building a business that operates on multiple dimensions: economic, emotional, energetic, existential.
You are not just managing a cat café. You are guarding a gateway.
This Is What We're Building.
Cat cafés of the future won't survive on novelty or nap pods alone. Not in this economy. Not in this dimension.
They will need:
• New myths
• Strong boundaries
• Slow rituals
• Community constellations
• And founders who aren't afraid to walk through the fog
That’s what this space is for. That’s what Cat Café Confidential is becoming.
If you are:
• An aspiring founder who knows your café has a soul
• A current owner who is burned out and dreaming of a new way
• A nonprofit leader, a holistic pet coach, a barista-mystic hybrid..then welcome.
You are not lost. You are just crossing.
And I'm here in the red room, light flickering, log in hand, ready to help you remember who you are. Want help through the fog?
