A topic that comes up regularly, a turtle (including tortoises) for a child. If you are a parent who is considering a turtle for a child, then learn what your child is expecting from their turtle and evaluate if a turtle is a good fit for your child and your family. It is not much different from evaluating whether a dog or a cat is a good fit for your child. And please, always consider a captive-bred animal.

A few 2025 Eastern box turtle hatchlings that were hatched by a friend. I had the pleasure of raising them up since fall and pretty happy with how they have been growing.

Overcoming challenges, something that turtles/tortoises seem to do very well. This little pancake Tortoise has a jaw deformity that makes it work a bit harder for each bite.

Many folks get tempted to buy cute baby turtles and are often told they won't get 'BIG'. Well, guess what? They will get huge, and this is what they will turn into in about 5 years or so, unless of course people end up killing them due to poor care.

Think before you fall in love...with an animal. Once you have thought it through then fall in love many times....assuming you have the space for many of them 😉
