Who already knew chocolate is toxic to dogs?

Dogs love it, but it doesn’t love them back. While the vet techs and assistants would love to fill the vet clinic up with the smell of warm chocolate (vetmed guilty pleasure 🤤), your pup may not enjoy the consequences. We’ll still love on them like our own pets, because even the veterinarian’s puppy is trying to eat the Halloween candy.

Happy Vet Tech Week! Veterinary technicians have so many job titles and wear so many hats in the vet clinic. It’s hard to think of an all encompassing list and they’re constantly learning more skills to improve our patient care. Thank your local vet tech today!

Yes, even in winter. They work retroactively on heartworm larvae, ticks love cool weather above freezing, and mosquitoes persist longer thanks to heat sinks in cities.

Checking a heart worm test once a year for dogs looks for resistant strains and any missed doses that lead to an infection. Even Chicago rarely gets 30 or more days below freezing that would keep ticks away (so keep giving that preventative).

Ask your veterinarian about your pet’s risk and preventatives that can keep your pet from developing heartworm disease, multiple (and difficult to treat) tick diseases, and intestinal parasites.
