In true SML fashion this girl came out spicy, not even 3 hours old and she’s driving her mother crazy running around the stall.

This is our second Pastels Smart Lena foal. To our knowledge this is his only Appendix foal, both sire and dam knocked it out of the park.

Mom and baby are doing fantastic!

We’ve had 32 foals since our programs start in 1996, this is the first Hippo-mane we have ever found. It’s said if you find one you’ll have good luck for the year, especially if you throw it on the roof of your barn!

We have two more mares to go and we’ve had quite the foaling season so far!

Moxx is technically our fourth mare due but it looks like she might go before Lola!

You can really see how close she is. Between her engorged bag and dropped barrel, this poor mare waddles! You can also see that she has been waxing and that she’s very sunken in her tail head. She’s four days over due which is exactly when she foaled her last filly. We’re keeping our fingers crossed she goes soon!

She’s expecting our second Pastels Smart Lena foal! This will be her first AQHA Appendix foal!

We’re very excited to see this cross! This foal will be an own grandson/daughter of Smart Little Lena and Wiseman’s Ferry. 50% run and 50% cutting/cow.

A 2026 Dark Bay JC Thoroughbred C**t by Hess Bodidly (Small Change) out of Morning Valentine (Morning Line)

Smack really hit copy and paste with this little guy, he’s a carbon copy of his yearling sister, “Bo’s Morning Boo”.

Punch was out and hitting all of milestones in two hours. This boy is HUGE. There seems to be a theme this year, big late c**ts 😅

We’ve had our third mare hit her due date so we are still waiting on foals! Until then we thought we’d share one of our proposed 2027 crosses!

We have decided push our breeding season a little later into June due to our unpredictable Wyoming weather we have in April/ May!

We are so excited for this cross. Just look at the mix of bloodlines. Polo, World Champion Paint and QH, cow and old school TB/ QH lines. Northern Dancer, Sacred Indian, Shining Spark, Hollywood Dun It and Colonels Smoking Gun and more.

Our goal with this foal is to produce a high quality Rope horse prospect that can compete in the Rope horse futurities.

First and foremost we breed high quality Polo pony prospects and while this is a little different, we have had major success infusing our Polo lines on stock horse mares. Indy is an example of that cross. She is quite the little Polo/ Rope horse. We think she’ll cross beautifully on Hesa Mobspark.

While we are “patiently” awaiting on our mares to foal out (two are now overdue 🙃), we have been finding other ways to pass the time. That includes giving our midwife/yearling babysitter/ ranch dog his paycheck. He prefers glazed donuts. It’s Scoots world we just live in it 💁🏻‍♀️😂

Our bonus baby is due any minute!

After being checked open at 14 days, Smack decided she wanted to keep living the pampered broodmare life and ended up in foal!

Sometimes, even at 14 days embryos can play hide and seek. We’ve had mares check open several times and end up bred.

This will be a full sibling to our yearling “Bo’s Morning Boo”!

Smack is showing every single sign that this baby is ready to drop. Pregnant bellies will pull all of the muscles in the topline, flank and croupe down in order to position the body for foaling.

Smack, just like us, is ready to see this baby!

Shade is one of our yearling fillies that exceeded what we expected! We knew Mojos first foal was going to be fantastic but boy did he stamp Shade!

Five days old and getting stronger!

Every once in a while we will have a foal born needing to have a little extra help, Chavez is one of those foals. He is a BIG c**t. One of the biggest newborns we’ve ever had and because of that he didn’t have a lot of extra room. He was born with contracted tendons. Which can be common and happen for a lot of different reasons.

With the help of splints and limited movement he’s getting stronger and straighter everyday. We are an aware his legs look a little different but they will be just fine! Sometimes it takes a foal a little longer to unfold and trust us it has not hindered Chavez in the slightest. He’s full of personality and loves to “help” putting on his splints.

We like to show all sides of our program. Especially the ones that have teachable moments!

Our next mare is due the 31st! And she’s getting closer and closer. Stay tuned and keep watching this little hams progress!

Aren’t genetics wild?

These fillies are cousins on paper. Boo’s (Dark Bay) sire “Hess Bodidly” and Roja’s (Chestnut) dam “Crown H Zinger” are full siblings.

Both fillies are by 15H sires. Both fillies are maiden foals. The only difference? One dam is 15H and the others is 15.3H.

Both are Polo bred. One is a yearling and one is barely a three year old. And both have been enjoying the rainy weather and the mud!
