The winds are wreaking havoc! Holly Jolly is sending Bob Jingle out to check the phone lines but we hear the winds have maintenance crews stymied! We probably won't see them until sometime in the night. Bare with us and know we have found other ways of communicating if your call is too distorted. Happy Wyoming Life Days!!

For those inquiring about the EHV1 outbreak (Equine Herpes Virus- neurologic form) the outbreak originated at barrel racing events in Texas and Oklahoma. Multiple horses became ill with the neurologic form of the disease, but not before potentially exposed horses left those states and travelled home or to other events. At this time, aphis vets are working hard to trace locations on all possibly exposed horses. We know that some of these horses are in Wyoming, but so far there are no positive cases in our state. Larimer County Colorado does have one confirmed positive case that started with respiratory symptoms and progressed to neurologic symptoms. Timing wise, we will not know the extent of the outbreak for another week or so, as incubation can be up to 21 days. Therefore, we recommend that if you have been to any events in the past weeks, closely monitor your horses temperature, and monitor for any respiratory symptoms. If possible, keep horses home for the next 2 weeks. Also note that the EHV vaccine does NOT protect against the neurologic strain of EHV, only the respiratory strain. Spread is largely by direct or close airborne contact with other horses. If you have any questions regarding your horse or risk mitigation, please call!
