The Cheyenne region saw a spike in leptospirosis cases in dogs in 2023, most of which were unvaccinated or not up to date on their vaccines.
Leptospirosis (or lepto) is a serious bacterial disease that affects both dogs and humans. It spreads through water, soil, or objects (bowls, play pools, etc.) contaminated with urine from infected animals. It can lead to kidney or liver failure in severe cases.
⚠️ All dogs are at risk, but especially those that:
Visit dog parks or boarding facilities
Are around livestock, rodents, or wildlife
Spend time outdoors near standing water
💉 The AAHA now recommends leptospirosis as a core vaccine due to how severe and widespread it is. Vaccination not only protects your dog, it helps prevent human infection too.
Don’t wait for an outbreak to hit close to home. Call us 307-204-4461 to make sure your dog is protected!
