Since joining our pack, Xena has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite. Say hello to Sheets, a 2-year-old cat who's sweet, spunky, and just the right mix of cuddly and curious. You can find her at Pet Supplies Plus in Great Bridge, thanks to our partnership with their team. It couldn’t come at a better time as our cattery floor is getting some much-needed repairs starting Monday, which means all of our cats are being moved temporarily... or better yet, permanently, into loving homes!

Sheets is a former mama whose kittens - Wawa and Exxon - are also looking for homes at the shelter. If you're thinking about adding a new cat to your family, now’s a great time to swing by and meet Sheets (and maybe pick up a few treats while you’re there).

It's been a few weeks and we can say for certain - the kittens have arrived. We’ve already welcomed 45 kittens so far this year, with many more expected as summer rolls in. These little ones come with big appetites and lots of needs, and we could use your help stocking up on supplies to give them the best start possible.

We’re especially in need of:
-Kitten kibble & wet food
-Pellet litter (paper or pine preferred)
-Snuggle Buddies warming stuffies
-Toys to keep those curious minds busy

Patty Mayo's second chance started with you. When she arrived at CHS from PETA, Patty was just a kitten - tiny, timid, and limping. X-rays revealed the unthinkable: she’d been shot, and the bullet had shattered her leg.

Our veterinary team made the compassionate decision to amputate Patty's leg so she could live pain-free. Thanks to the support from donors like you, Patty got the lifesaving care she needed.

Patty healed in a foster home filled with love, toys, and snuggles, and soon after returning to the shelter, she was adopted into a forever home where she’s now queen of the castle.

From transfer partnerships and medical care to fostering and adoption, every step of Patty's journey was made possible by your generosity.

Swing by Afterglow Brewing this Saturday, May 17th from 12–4pm for the Shelter Spring Fling!

We’re teaming up with animal shelters from across Hampton Roads for a day dedicated to helping pets and the people who love them. From adoptable animals to resources for pet owners, you’ll find plenty of ways to get involved and support the local shelter community.

Whether you're looking to adopt, volunteer, or just learn more about what we do, this event is all about coming together to make a difference for animals in need. Grab a drink, meet some new furry friends, and connect with the organizations working hard every day to keep pets safe and families together.

The forecast may be calling for rain, but we’re thinking pizza, pints, and pets TONIGHT.

Join us from 4-6pm at Brewing Company, Summit Pointe, for a Charity Give-Back Night hosted by our friends, Chesbay Distributing LLC. Whether it’s raining cats and dogs or just sprinkling, you can still come out, stay dry, and support a great cause.

From 4–10 PM, 25% of all sales will be donated back to CHS to provide services to pets and their people in our community.
