Thank you Service Dogs • Balanced Training • Groomer for this excellent video! Trimming the dark nails of dogs can be tricky since the quick isn’t visible through the outer cortex like it is in light colored nails. This is the same method I use! Take off the tips and then take little slivers off at a time until you see the tip of the quick. Full disclosure: this isn’t as easy to do in a dog who’s fighting against you and jerking their leg away. If your pet is struggling, let your vet team or groomer tackle the nails and don’t forget to consider fear free medications to make it less stressful and easier to do a great job like this.

Mama came in because her appetite wasn’t quite right and her exam told an important story. 🐰

She’s carrying extra weight and has overgrown teeth, two problems that very often travel together in rabbits. The most common cause? Too many pellets and not enough roughage.

Rabbits are designed to chew fiber-rich hay almost constantly. That grinding motion is what naturally keeps their teeth worn down and their GI tract moving the way it should.

When pellets start to dominate the diet, we often see:
• Weight gain
• Dental overgrowth
• Decreased appetite
• GI slowdown

💡 Rule of thumb: most adult rabbits should get no more than ¼ cup of pellets per day (and many need less depending on size and body condition).

The foundation of a healthy bunny diet should be:
🥬 Unlimited grass hay (timothy, orchard, etc.)
🥬 Daily leafy greens
🥕 Pellets in measured amounts, not free-fed

If your rabbit is eating fewer hay strands and more pellets… it may be time for a diet reset.

Based on a true story. 🙃

Multimillion-dollar corporations continue to prioritize investor returns while cutting support staff, increasing patient loads, and expecting veterinary teams to do more with less.

Meanwhile, veterinary technicians, assistants, and receptionists (the people who keep these hospitals running), are often paid so poorly that some need second jobs just to make ends meet.

Private equity firms and corporate ownership groups can extract substantial profits from veterinary practices while simultaneously scrutinizing labor costs and denying modest raises to the very people responsible for generating that revenue.

And when staffing budgets are squeezed, it’s not just employees who suffer. It’s our patients, our clients, and the quality of care we’re able to provide.

Veterinary medicine is a healthcare profession. Our support staff are skilled healthcare professionals. They deserve to be compensated accordingly.

Perhaps before asking how much more profit a hospital can generate, we should be asking whether the people keeping it running can afford to live.

Just a thought.

I’m tired of feeling like my vote doesn’t matter. I’m tired of watching tragedy after tragedy unfold while our elected officials argue, point fingers, and accomplish so little.

Since Sandy Hook, we’ve had both Republican and Democratic administrations. We’ve seen both parties hold power. And yet, here we are, still sending our children to school wondering if they’ll come home.

Yes, there have been legislative changes. But clearly, we have not done enough.

We need meaningful campaign finance reform. We need to confront the influence of lobbyists and powerful special interests. We need to consider reforms like ranked-choice voting that could give Americans more meaningful choices beyond the two-party system.

Because that system is failing to represent so many of us.

America has a gun problem. America has a youth mental health crisis. Both things can be true. And we can work on BOTH.

This shouldn’t be Republicans versus Democrats. Conservatives versus liberals. Red versus blue.

This should be about the American people versus a political system that too often seems more interested in protecting itself than serving the people it represents.

I’m not interested in blaming one party while excusing the other. I’m interested in accountability, compromise, and actual solutions.

How many more children have to die before we can put aside our political identities and work together as reasonable adults?

We cannot keep accepting this as normal.

Our children deserve better. We ALL deserve better.

Enough is enough.
