The medications we use to induce emesis (or vomiting) in dogs are largely ineffective in cats. We were so happy to see this study about using dexmedetomidine and using it ORALLY, no injections needed, for cat emesis.
Once she vomited, we reversed the drug with atipamezole.

Halloween is here! As fun as it can be, it can always pose dangers for our pets. Let’s talk about them:
• Chocolate, candy and candy wrappers are our biggest
dangers! Chocolate is toxic, especially the darker and more bitter it is. Candy can lead to Gl issues and pancreatitis, while the candy wrappers can cause an obstruction in the Gl tract.
• Glow sticks can cause pain and irritation in the mouth if they’re bitten/punctured. Cats are more likely to bite a glow stick, so keep these out of reach.
• Candles are a great spooky decoration, but pets may knock these over or wag their tail over an open flame. Use caution with pets and lit candles.

It’s Veterinary Technician week! We take this week to shine the light on our Vet Techs and support staff. They are essential to what we do each day. Our team wears many hats - from providing education, to cleaning up messes, to monitoring anesthesia, they do it all and then some! Please take some time to thank your veterinary support team this week and all the weeks to come. 🩺💙

Is it just aging, or something more?
It’s easy to chalk up changes to “just getting older,” but sometimes they’re signs of an underlying or even treatable condition. If you’ve noticed your pet slowing down, acting differently, or losing some of their spark, let’s take a closer look! Their golden years can still be happy, healthy ones.

You may have seen her at the clinic, but it’s time we formally introduced Kaitlyn!

Hello, I’m Kaitlyn! I’m a vet tech assistant here at CVH. I’m pursuing an education in the veterinary medicine field and have a strong love for our furry friends. Being able to help animals brings me so much joy, so I’m excited to see where my path takes me. I graduated from Celina High School in 2024. During my time there I was a part of NHS and played on the girls varsity soccer team. I have five fur babies of my own. My two dogs, Max, a sweet german shepherd, and Sofie, a spicy chihuahua. Then there’s my three kitties Winter, Jack, and Nami. In my down time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, especially on Lake Texoma. I can’t wait to get to know you and your furry friends!🥰

🎉 We’re officially ONE YEAR OLD! 🎉
What an incredible first year it’s been - caring for your pets, building our team, and bringing this dream to life. Thank you for welcoming us into your community and trusting us with your furry family members.

But our work hasn’t stopped at the clinic doors! From volunteering with Helping Hands, to setting up booths at local events, and even playing pickleball at the downtown courts, we’ve loved being part of the Celina community.

Here’s to many more years of tail wags, purrs, and happy, healthy pets! 🐾💙
