Ouiji is Dr. Vadala's Western Hognose Snake who is a bit of a spicy noodle! He is just one of the many pets you'll be able to meet (from a safe distance of course) at our FREE Open House event, next Saturday, August 22nd at 10 am!

Hognose snakes are notorious for their grumpy nature, but they usually are quite safe to handle. They are much more "hiss than strike"! In fact, Hognose snakes are known to roll over and "play dead" when threatened!

Today is Ouiji's feeding day, so he was a little grumpier than usual, showing off his hissing skills and a behavior called Cobra mimicry--where he puffs up his body and flattens his head to look more menacing to a predator (did it work for you? ;) ). We think it makes him look cuter.

As you might imagine, Hognose snakes are named for the way their little snouts tip up like a, you guessed it! Hog's nose!
