Happy Pigeon Appreciation Day! 🕊️🕊️

On June 15th, 2022 I got asked to help a lost racing pigeon, not knowing how it would alter the entire trajectory of my life. After I learned about the horrors of pigeon racing, I promised Miles I would do everything I could to give him the life he deserved. I tried to find him a sanctuary, but wound up becoming one, so I could keep my promise to him.

Now, 4 years later, we are not just a sanctuary, but a flock, and a family. Miles has given my life the purpose and meaning that I had long searched for. I always had the goal of starting a sanctuary, and Miles pushed me to actually do it. There is no time like the present, especially when someone's life depends on it.

Since 2022, we've had many hardships, but have persevered them all, together. As we continue forward, we are asking for your support in fundraising for a permanent location in New York State. Check out the links in bio to donate or for other ways to support us.

Full disclosure, I have been unable to update for the past month or so due to how busy I am, but I worked on a lot of new content before taking a break and will be back to it very soon!

There are also lots of new perks and exclusive content coming in the near future, so stay tuned, and thanks for all your support! We couldn't do this lifesaving work without your donations, and recently there has been a big drop in donor support.

Yesterday was another horrible day, which seems to be the running theme of 2026/my life. Pollux, his brother Castor, and I were hanging out as usual, preparing to end the day. Pollux was running around and playing normally one moment, and the next he was rapidly declining. He was in a loaf position struggling to stand, and when I picked him up he went completely limp.

I thought he was actively dying, so I called my amazing home vet Dr. Grodio and sent her a few videos of what was happening. She said it looked like he could have had a cardiac event and may be in the process of passing away. She offered to make a house call anyway, and if necessary, take his body for necropsy... 💔

While waiting for Dr. G to arrive, I made him as comfortable as I could, and offered him his favorite rare treat, a cotton candy grape. He devoured it,and then drank some water on his own. After a while, he stood up, wobbly but much improved. Dr. G examined him, administered subcutaneous fluid, pain medication, electrolytes & B vitamins, and prescribed a course of antibiotics as a precaution. We also sent out for some tests which can hopefully explain what happened.

He is doing much better and is almost back to himself. We will still need to follow up and pursue further testing, but Dr. G said his heart sounded good, which is a huge relief. Our best guess as to what happened is anything from a blood sugar crash to a stroke. I'm just glad my sweet boy made it through this. It is actually (approximately) the boys 3rd birthday! Since their exact hatch date is unknown, it made sense to celebrate them on my birthday, since I hate my birthday.

Castor & Pollux are named for the Gemini constellation, which is represented by two brothers born to the goddess Leda. They hatched from the same egg, but Castor was born mortal, and Pollux immortal. When Castor died, Pollux begged Zeus to bring him back, and the compromise was to immortalize them both in the stars together. After what happened, we joked maybe he really is immortal 😅

Pollux's vet care was $510. I made a birthday fundraiser to help offset this cost, for their birthday, not mine lol. Tysm in advance for your support 🙏

Freckles and Miguel are such a sweet pair! Freckles with her absolutely adorable flippy hairdo is such a doll, and her husbird Miguel is a beautiful, sleek retired racing pigeon who builds THE most incredible nests you've ever seen. These two would be fantastic companions, only requiring their included setup and space to free fly. They are vet cleared and include all the necessary supplies for their comfort. Carla and Giuseppe are your typical couple from Brooklyn; no nonsense, tough, opinionated, and so in love. Think the pigeon version of Vinny & Mona Lisa Vito (missed opportunity to name them after these icons).

These two survived hard times and came to our sanctuary through a rescuer in 2024. Carla has a slight scissor beak which is a result of severe trichomoniasis. As a result, she needs a deep food dish with a variety of seeds and pellets.

These lovebirds excel at making elaborate nests, enjoy gazing out the window while loafing together, and would be wonderful companions. They will fit into your life seamlessly for you to revel in their company and wonderful personalities.

The next adoptable couple is Uno & Yin! Uno is a wing amputee and therefore cannot fly, but Yin doesn't mind at all. He builds her wonderful nests in whatever spot she chooses, and follows her around completely devotedly 🥹 They are a quiet, reserved pair who enjoy exploring their space during their honeymoon period off the nest. Uno & Yin include everything you need to accommodate her special needs, a cage, food, and ongoing support for any questions you may have. Meet the adoptables! Starting with the fancy and friendly 🐦‍⬛ Raven & Bald Eagle 🦅

These two are the total pet pigeon package; Raven is a mild-mannered sweet girl with the most beautiful feet feathers, and her devoted husbird Bald Eagle is a stunning piebald homer.

They were rescued together from a hoarding case in 2023 and are now thriving. They love bathing, building nests, and sunbathing together. Their bond is so beautiful and special to witness.

Bald Eagle and Raven are adoptable and include a cage, food, and have been f***l cleared. Transportation is available within 2 hours/50 miles of Putnam County. Adoption application is in the bio or send a DM!

EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED!

This poor pigeon has been impaled by cruel and useless BIRD SPIKES 🤬 if anyone can go to the area and catch them at City Hall Park (map at end of video), PLEASE immediately bring them to the Wild Bird Fund.

Flock protectors and tired for over two hours to catch this angel, to no avail. This is exactly why pigeons so badly need our help, AND for us to stop making their existence so much harder. They are just trying to survive like the rest of us. Pigeons are New Yorkers, too!
