Animal identification is more than just ear tags ,
it is the foundation of a safer, smarter, and more accountable livestock sector.

Through systems such as ANITRAC, animal identification helps improve livestock traceability, disease surveillance, ownership verification, and movement monitoring. It also supports better record keeping and strengthens efforts toward disease control and food safety.

For farmers, this means improved livestock security, better management of animal records, and increased confidence in trade and animal movement systems.

As Kenya continues advancing toward modern livestock production and digital traceability systems, awareness on animal identification becomes increasingly important for all livestock stakeholders.

A healthy livestock sector begins with proper identification, accountability, and collaboration.

let’s talk ANITRAC 🇰🇪🐄.

So What is ANITRAC?

ANITRAC stands for the Animal Identification and Traceability System,it is a national initiative aimed at improving livestock identification, traceability, disease surveillance, and livestock movement monitoring in Kenya.

The system seeks to create a more modern, accountable, and data-driven livestock sector through animal identification and digital record management.

This is expected to play a major role in:
• Strengthening animal disease control
• Improving food safety
• Supporting livestock trade and market access
• Enhancing livestock security and traceability

As Kenya’s livestock sector continues to evolve, awareness and understanding of systems like ANITRAC will become increasingly important for farmers, veterinary professionals, and all livestock stakeholders.

THE BIGGER PICTURE OF FMD CONTROL

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is more than just an animal disease it is an economic, food security, and livestock sustainability challenge.

Through the continued partnership between the Kenya Veterinary Paraprofessional Association (KVPA) and Navcdp , Veterinary Paraprofessionals across the country have continued to support sensitization, farmer engagement, and vaccination preparedness efforts aimed at strengthening livestock health systems in Kenya.

During our sensitization sessions with Veterinary Paraprofessionals, discussions focused on:
✔ Importance of FMD vaccination
✔ Disease prevention and control
✔ Farmer livelihoods protection
✔ National livestock productivity
✔ Safe trade and market access

A healthy herd means:
• Better milk production
• Better growth rates
• Better farmer income
• Better food security for Kenya

Disease control begins with awareness, coordination, and vaccination.

Healthy livestock begin with effective parasite control.

During the Kenya Veterinary Paraprofessional Association (K.V.P.A) and Zoetis Sub-Saharan Africa - ALPHA Kericho CPD Training, veterinary professionals explored modern approaches to parasite management and how proper control programs improve productivity, animal welfare, and farm profitability.

Regular deworming, tick control, and proper farm hygiene remain critical in protecting livestock health and reducing economic losses for farmers.

Healthy animals. Better productivity. Stronger livelihoods.
