Who knew "working like a dog" could look this good?

Happy Work Like a Dog Day! Today is all about celebrating the hard work we put into what we love. For me, that means those quiet, one-on-one sessions in the salon where I get to focus entirely on making sure my furry clients feel calm, safe, and look their absolute best.

It takes a lot of patience and attention to detail to get everything just right, but seeing a pet relax into the experience is the best reward. I also have to give a huge shout-out to our pups: their "job" of keeping us happy and providing endless love is the most important work of all!

Did you know Assistance Dog Day is coming up on August 4th? These incredible dogs do so much for their humans here in the Quad Cities, and I think they deserve a little extra love.

I’ve always felt that my quiet, one-on-one salon is the perfect spot for service dogs to take a well-earned break. When they come to see me, they can hang up the harness for a bit and just enjoy being a dog. My goal is to provide a calm, low-stress environment where they can relax and get pampered without any of the typical salon chaos.

I am so grateful for the hard work these dogs do every single day. Seeing them leave looking fresh and feeling relaxed is one of my favorite parts of what I do. To all the assistance dogs and their partners in our community: thank you for everything you do!

Did you know that dental health is just as important for our pets as it is for us? 🦷✨

It's Tuesday Tip time! I often get asked how to keep those pearly whites shining between grooming visits. While I love providing a good scrub during our one-on-one sessions, the real secret is consistency at home.

To truly prevent plaque and tartar from building up, daily brushing is key! Even just a quick 30-second brush once a day makes a world of difference for their overall health and keeps their breath much fresher. If daily feels like a big step, try starting with a few times a week and working your way up. Your pet’s smile (and heart!) will thank you for it.

Gentle reminder: always use pet-specific toothpaste, as human toothpaste isn't safe for them to swallow!

There is nothing quite like the feeling of a freshly brushed coat, but did you know that keeping up with it at home is one of the best things you can do for your pet’s health?

I always notice such a difference when a pet comes in for their one-on-one session and has been regularly brushed. Not only does it keep their coat shiny and tangle-free, but it also makes our time together so much more relaxing and calm. When there aren't any pesky mats to work through, your pet can just sit back and enjoy the pampering.

Brushing is also my favorite way to catch anything out of the ordinary, like little bumps or skin changes, before they become bigger issues. It’s that extra layer of care that keeps them feeling their best long-term. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to spend some quiet time bonding with them on the couch!

A little bit of maintenance goes a long way in keeping that "just groomed" look and feel lasting much longer.

Happy DOGust 1st! Today is the universal birthday for all those amazing shelter dogs whose actual birth dates are a mystery.

I have such a soft spot for the rescues that come through my doors. There is nothing quite like watching a pup who might have had a rough start slowly blossom in my quiet, one-on-one grooming environment. Seeing them go from being a little unsure to totally relaxed and trusting is honestly the highlight of my day.

To all my rescue clients: I see how far you've come, and I’m so proud to be a part of your journey. Happy Birthday to all the resilient, sweet souls out there!

Bonus Recipe: Frozen Broth & Carrot Stars 🥕⭐

Hydration is key during these humid Iowa summers! These frozen stars are a low-calorie way to keep your dog busy and hydrated.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup low-sodium chicken or beef broth (onion/garlic free!)
- 1/2 cup finely shredded carrots

Instructions:
1. Place a pinch of shredded carrots into each slot of an ice cube tray.
2. Fill with broth.
3. Freeze until solid.

The carrots add a nice crunch and the broth keeps them hydrated! 🐾

Is there anything better than a one-of-a-kind pup?

Today is National Mutt Day, and I’m taking a moment to celebrate all the unique mixed breeds that visit me at the salon. I truly love every single one of them! From their quirky ears to their "one-of-a-kind" coat textures, they always keep things interesting.

And let’s be honest: they definitely leave behind plenty of their signature "glitter" (aka shedding) for me to find later! But honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Each one has a personality that’s just as special as their look.

They say that a dog is a man's best friend, but I think the bond goes so much deeper than that. For International Friendship Day, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible relationship I have with my own pet.

Working in a quiet, one-on-one salon means my cats aren’t just companions at home: they’re truly my favorite coworker. They help keep the atmosphere calm and remind me every day why I dedicated myself to this work. There’s something so special about a friendship that doesn’t need words, just a wagging tail, a comforting presence, and a whole lot of heart.

Whether your best friend has two legs or four, today is the perfect day to celebrate that connection. My cats make my days brighter and my work more meaningful, and I’m so grateful for that unconditional support.

Fresh breath, coming right up! 🥕🌿

My latest Thursday Recipe is a crunchy favorite: Carrot & Parsley Biscuits. I find these are perfect for keeping those smiles bright and healthy.

What you’ll need:
- 1 cup grated carrots
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley (finely chopped)
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour)
- 1/2 cup water

How to make:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Mix all ingredients until a dough forms.
3. Roll out and cut into fun shapes!
4. Bake for 20-25 minutes until crunchy.
