We are rescheduling the Barn Hunt Run Thru that was supposed to happen tomorrow. The weather has not cooperated! We will be holding it on Feb 21st instead. If you are interested in coming, the form is at the bottom of this page.

Winter Activities for 2026

You can use Halloween as a training exercise for your dog if you have two people. When the doorbell rings, one person will open the door and give out the candy. The other person is giving the dog treats. Depending on what you are working on, doorbell manners i.e. dog not reacting to the bell or knocking, or getting the dog use to strange people, you may or may not let the dog see the people at the door. The important thing is a high reinforcement rate for the dog and not to let them get too close to a child. Maybe be feeding him his dinner during the process. Classes for Winter 2026

Canine Good Citizen Graduates



Congratulations to Thea, Jynx, Barnaby for passing the CGC 10 step test. Also, congratulations to Jack for passing the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test.



We will be offering Beginning and Advanced/Intermediate Rally classes on Tuesday, January 6th. The Advanced/Intermediate class will start at at 6 pm. The Beginning class will start at 7 pm. If you are interested, please go to Rally | Mountain Tails Train and fill out the form at the bottom of the page. Payments are accepted as Check, Venmo or Zelle.



On January 8, we will start our Scent Work classes. The Beginning class will start at 7 pm. There will be an Advanced class at 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm. To sign up for any of the classes, please go to Scent Work | Mountain Tails Train and fill out the form found under the prices section. Payments are accepted as Check, Venmo or Zelle.



We will be having a Barn Hunt Run Thru on November 15th, 2025. It will start at 9 am. Please fill out the form at the bottom of the Barn Hunt page page and send it to me if you would like to enter. Barn Hunt | Mountain Tails Train. I can set up the blinds ahead of time if I know how many dogs we will have.

Barn Hunt Classes will start again on February 26th.

We finished up the long week at the Salem Civic Center where we had a three day Barn Hunt Trial and a day of practice sessions. A big thank you to Scott Minke for being our patient judge, Elizabeth M Staley for keeping everyone in the right place as secretary and the multiple people who kept us running smoothly by jumping in to help. We had some absolutely fantastic volunteers!!! Thanks to the Roanoke Kennel Club for inviting us to join them in Salem.

I have a few pictures. A great thanks to Tom Crouch for the awesome pictures he took. I asked for 2 to post here and he sent me 72. I had a hard time picking just a few!

This Saturday, from 12 to 2 pm, we are having a Critter Carnival for dogs in Moneta at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Moneta VA. If you and your dog would like to come play some games, come on over. We will also have a costume contest if they want to wear their Halloween costume. The cost is $25/dog. Hope to see you then!

Yes, we are having a Barn Hunt Trial at the Salem Civic Center October 15, 16 and 17. It is not on the event calendar right now. They took it down to make some changes and then took off the weekend. On October 18 and 19, we will be doing Run Throughs at the same location.

We had an awesome weekend for our trial, despite what the weather man said. I am glad that they were wrong! Thanks for all the help to make it run smoothly. A big thanks to Scott Minke and Elizabeth Staley for some great judging and secretary work.
