The Emotional Impact of Rescue – What People Don’t Always See 💔🐾

Rescue work is often portrayed as inspiring—and it is. But behind every rescue is a weight that’s rarely spoken about.

Rescuers and carers often suffer quietly:

🌧️Compassion fatigue – constant exposure to suffering wears you down.

🌧️Burnout – the emotional cost of always being needed, of never being able to do enough.

🌧️ Witnessing trauma – seeing neglect, cruelty, abandonment.

🌧️Making impossible decisions – when you can’t save them all.

🌧️ No support system – many carers work alone, with no therapy, no backup, no rest.

And still—they show up. Every. Single. Day.

Some rescuers carry multiple responsibilities and that in itself is taxing.

A full-time job, household responsibilities, family obligations, owned pets - not including fosters. Rescue comes with many hats and there are many that don't just juggle one role.

We need to talk about the emotional toll of caring.
Because the truth is: saving animals often breaks the people doing the saving.

If you know someone doing rescue work—check on them. Help them. Listen.

They carry more than you realize. 🐾💕

In honor of National Animal Care & Control Appreciation Week and to all of the individuals involved in Animal Welfare, doing far more than anyone truly understands.

We see you... 💓

Thank you all for coming out on a chilly but beautiful day for our Fourth Annual Spring Cheers event! The Easter Egg Hunts were a hit and the baby goats were so happy to meet you all! Thank you to Little Creek Equine for providing pony rides again this year and supporting our rescue. A special thanks to all the family and friends who donated baked goods, inflatables, and their time and help to make this year another success.

I myself ended up at the hospital in the middle of the event due to pneumomediastinum flaring up my already severe asthma and it has me in the ICU on oxygen and IV medications…but once I’m back on the farm I will draw and announce the winner of the raffle.

If you were unable to attend the event but still want to donate, you can always donate dog or cat food, litter, or contribute monetarily by Venmo or CashApp.

Photo dump of our rescue’s pest control expert, Tenchi. This cat can and does kill the pesky rodents and copperheads around the farm so that we can rest easy. When he’s not on duty he can be found here lounging on his favorite chair in the sun.

RIP CHRIS and many of the cats at HAPPY CAT SANCTUARY

I woke up to very devastating news. Happy Cat Sanctuary caught fire and many cats perished. Chris is the founder of the sanctuary and he perished while trying to save his cats. I along with the rest of the rescue community are very sad today.

Happy Cat Sanctuary took in so many feral cats from unsafe areas, cats with social and physical issues, cats from hoarding cases, and cats from other rescuers. Besides adopting out the friendlies, they offered safe haven for any of the others who needed a forever home.

A few years ago I pulled a cat from ACC's at risk list. Nine times in a row she was posted to be at risk for euthanasia, and tons of people tagged me to help. I pulled her and found out that she was very temperamental, biting hard while being pet, and chasing my feet and attacking if I walked away. CHRIS found out about my experience with her and offered to take her. That is my experience with the sanctuary, and so many other people have brought them cats over the years. So many cats passed away today, I hope my cat survived, I hope all of the ones in the hospitals right now will survive.

If you followed their social media accounts you would see how great the cats lived and it always made me smile. Today is such a bad day.
